7.3 IDI & Power Stroke Engine Block question

Just wondering . . . I have a 1996 7.3 Power Stroke with an after market engine pushing close to 500 hp (although some have said 600), but I've digressed. The truck is in fair shape, the tranny is toast. (Read Parts truck).

I also have the Holy Grail of 7.3 IDI's . . . a 1993 and a 1/2, 7.3 IDI with the factory Turbo and a 5 speed.

Since the 93 & 96 match body and other parts, I have a inexpensive parts truck (only paid $1500.00).

Now I want to keep the 1993 truck IDI, I am wondering could I use the Block out of the Power Stroke for future use? Not sure if or how the Injector Pump would hook up? Are the gears the same?

I know I could just get the tranny fixed and sale it, but my backyard is closer than Pick-n-Pull. :)

Any comments would be welcome.

Well, I guess that answers my question. Thank you.

I guess I'll get the Transmission fixed . . . it'll be worth more. :)

I saw where R&D has modified the 7.3 Powerstroke rods for use in a idi. Does anyone know what that is all about

Shaves a certain amount off each side so they fit in the crank journals. Only reason is they are like the idit rods (33mm wrist pin?) but way more availability.

Perhaps I didn't ask the question correctly . . . Can I take the IDI Heads and Manual injector pump and install them on a Power Stroke Long Block?

Are the Bolt Patterns and timing gear the same? I know this one year (93.5 to 94.5) of the IDI 7.3 with factory turbo had (I believe) the rods and other parts beefed up.

No, completely different. However, you can buy a mechanical p pump for your powerstroke...think the kit runs $20k from hypermax.

Edit: $11.9k

Thanks to all who answered. That settles it, I'm going to get the transmission fixed and make some money off the truck.

Even if you could, the engine wouldn't like the extremely low (relatively) compression. It would be hard to start, smoke badly until warm, and probably be low on power without a lot of fuel and boost.
