Trans filter change

I'm changing the fluid and filter in my E4OD tomorrow,(also the bad tach sensor) I bought 7 quarts of Dex/Merc auto trans fluid. Now it calls for over 6 quarts so should I just dump the whole 7 in it? also I have some lucas to put in. I've just never done this to an E4OD and I don't wanna screw it up

To get a complete fluid change, drain the torque converter as well...... This will be at least 13 quarts. Also, do yourself a favor and install a drain plug in the pan to make it a cleaner experience the next time. Also, too much fluid is just as bad as not enough, perhaps even worse. The converter will have a drain plug in it. IIRC, the drain plug is a 5/8.

so the torque converter has a drain plug? I didnt know that, so I'll go buy some more tomorrow lol

Follow Mark's procedure and you can replace ALL the trans fluid including the TC and trans cooler. IIRC I used 21 quarts.

I believe these complete drain and refills are 16 quarts but.. Find out because as posted ... Over full is as bad as underfil... My deep pan I have on my E4OD allows for 2 gallons more trans fluid..... Thanks about an expensive fluid and filter change.. Just getting something under the lower than normal pan is tuff.

Look into a trans filter "stay put, clip" that holds the filter in place without it possibly dropping to the bottom of the pan and leaving you stranded somewhere. It does happen, hasn't happend to me but I installed a few of them for peace of mind.

I use Valvoline max life synthetic with great results.
