I'm about to try a product from Lube Specialties (one of our sponsors) for this same issue on my 65 Mustang. 400 Protect-O-Lube is the juice and Chris gave me a specific procdure for product usage.

I'll let you know how it works.

I guess my question is...........How would you know you have a bad/sticky lifter? Is there a certain noise or symptom that lets you know? Just trying to learn something new.;Sweet

Hydraulic lifters have a distinct ticking sound when they are flat, sounds very similar to a leaking exhaust manifold.

genchow---you can also try 1 qt of kerosene in the engine crankcase--go out and drive it about 20 miles--have used this to get many noisy lifters quiet--but you have to drain the oil out when you get back----and try not to idle tooo much-----

Use an oil detergent such as Rislone. Solvents will work quick, but they will break loose ALL the crud in the engine, not just the varnish in the lifter.
