Gettin a hum from the motor compartment but cant pin point the spot. Sound increases with rpms. Checked the obvious pulleys.. no loss in power and performance.

Vac pump is electric.
Could be power stearing pump or the HPOP if the oil is nasty.
Actually, could be the HPOP, especially if oil is cold. The HPOP on my 95 would really protest the cold weather starts.

THANKS FOR RESPONSE'S
I ll look into the vac pump. Drove truck to and from florida from jersey with oil change before. Sound was always there.
temp was in the 80's everyday.

Where is vac pump located and is there any test to see if bad other than noise?

If not mistaken, the vac pump is on the pass fender ...

.....the pump is a dealer item only about $140 The Ford P/N is 6C3Z-2A451-BA which has been replaced by 6C3Z2A451A these p/n's come from TSB05-17-4

I know that route:puke: ...made over 20 trips from Trenton NJ to Tampa and FtLauderdale from '65 thru the early 70's. Of course that was back when traveling by car was fun....I was just too young {age 7 to teens} to understand...I-95 was hit and miss back then.....
{geeze...I'm oldLOL }

it IS on the rt fender, but I had to put on on my truck last winter, and I don't recall it being that much.. I wanna say it was around $60.

thing to do is jack the tensioner, and drop the belt.

then fire up the engine and see if you still get it.

if it's gone, then you know it's something belt driven

Well, I found the source of my problem however I have no idea what the part is that causes it. By using a very long screwdriver as a stethescope I found the source of the noise. Now if you look inside the drivers side wheel-well at the motor, directly under the exhaust manifold is a round cylinder like object about 12 inches long mounted horizontly. That is where my sound is the loudest. any ideas

You just described the oil cooler. Cant see how that can hum or vibrate?

Does it stop or decrease when the engine is warmed up?
