I replaced the 4 disc clutch pack for 3rd gear with an 8 disc pack when I rebuilt my C6. That requires a new direct drive drum as well. Cost me a few hundred in parts, but the thing is bullet proof big time.
Uh, no. That would be nuke proof. Maybe even asteroid resistant.
Was that an aftermarket clutch pack like what PATC sells? Maybe some day I'll go through my E4OD again and add that (have to see what happens after the turbo upgrade). I think the stock packs only go as high as 5 drictions and the drum is different between 4 friction and 5 friction.
The nice thing about adding more firction material is that you can have more holding power and faster shifts under load without having to rise line pressure. Higher line pressure tends to add heat and put more strain on the valves in the valve body.
