Just started my truck in 15 degree weather here in Evanston, WY
after leaving the block heater plugged in last night for
the first time ...

Cycled the glow plugs twice & it started right up ;Sweet

If you have a block heater - use it

It does make a difference ....

I've got mine set on a timer, it comes on around 3 hours before I need to start the truck in the morning.

We keep two and sometimes three trucks plugged in and if it has any effect on the monthly bill, I can't notice it.

Anytime I cut back on killowatt usage and the bill goes down a little, they send a man out and swap the meter so the bill goes even higher than it was, so I gave up on being energy-conserving years ago. cookoo

Cost around here is .06 per KWH, 2-3 hours heating time is cheap. 3 Hrs. 4500 watts is only .27 cents. Cheap for the hassel of trying to start a cold engine.

Since I sort of have no gps right now, I live by my block heater. 1-2 hrs is all you need no matter how cold.

At 15 degrees and plugged in all night you shouldn't need to cycle glow plugs twice. It does make a difference having it plugged in but a few hours does the trick. I plugged mine in today when I was headed to town with the car and when I got back I fired it up and went to cut firewood and I already had heat. Its not real cold out right now. Its about 34. I didn't need to plug it in but it just made it nicer.

Wow I started my truck at 12 degrees this morning with no block heater (It was plugged in...but it's on a GFCI outlet that keeps kicking off for some reason). It started rough, but no problems...and took forever to warm up, ugh

Heh, I laugh at 15 degree's.

Was -22 here this AM. Mines set up for 2-3hrs of BH. ONE cycle of the GP's (and a short one, at that) and She lit like it was +50

Man, I thought I was the only one they hammered like that! They came out and put a Digital Meter on My House, and My bill went up $18-25/mo!

I am on the road

I am on the road ..... ;Really

Every day in a different town - every couple days
in a different state

Sunday night in Rawlins, WY it was 5 below with a 45 m.p.h.
continuous SW wind all night long just like the daytime
when I was driving westbound on I-80 straight into it

Windchill was 25 below or more overnight all night long

With my truck pointed east - I still had a 4 foot high drift
in front of my truck from snow blowing underneath in the morning

My glowplug controller & glowplugs are only a few months old
and I replaced them myself

Going thru at least (2) cycles before starting may not
be needed for every truck - but mine starts easier

Nice pic! Titled "Clear Day" yet you can't see over 100' in front of the truck.
Safe Travels.
