I'm not the best at explaining things. Maybe this will be clearer.

Ok I think I see what I should be learning now. So the tab for the shift pattern would normally be up in that notch and when you need to pull back further it would pull to the left (down kinda) to take that notch out of the equation and be able to pull back further on the other pivot.

So if it doesn't go past 4wd, I wanna spray the hell out of the left right pivot area with wd40 and try to hit the linkage back and forth with a hammer near the two bolts that attach the assembly to the in cab portion. I think.

You can always detach the linkage and see if you can get it to go by hand.
