Not to Hijack, The only thing done to the engine is 2.5" exhaust from the turbo back. Hopefully it will see a better intake in the future. I have talked to lots of people about this engine and normally anything other than intake and exhaust mods end up shortening the life of the engine. PM me...
I know the T19 in my Scout is like that. I've had NP435's, T18's, and SM420's in other vehicles and it was no problem just as you described. The wide range in the T19 is killer between 2nd and 3rd. I've never had a close ratio T19 to know if it was any better or not?
In a pinch you can use a chisel to loosen that big nut but a socket is far better. Don't go buy a socket that big. They make special spindle nut sockets out of lighter material that are much cheaper to purchase. There is a torque spec for putting the spindle nut back on but a lot of them...
They made a 4cyl version of the SD33 (SD22 I think). I think they were put in a limited number of foreign made mini trucks. The only one I have ever seen was shoe horned into a lawn mower. It would make that thing scream but sizes were very different obviously.
Weight wise, the SD33 was...
If the threads on the U-bolts are galded when you try to take the nuts off you can use a saw-zall to cut the u-bolts also. The safest way to do that would be to have the piece flipped over as the others have mentioned.
My scout weighs 5K as it sits. Last I heard rebuild price on an SD33 was about $4000. Parts are hard to find and pricey. I think a person could have a mildly built 4BT for that kind of $.
I have seen the C6 give up as well as the E4OD. I plan on rebuilding it with upgraded parts that should help things out a lot. I like the manuals a little better but my 79 is a factory automatic and I want to keep it original looking in the cab on this one.
I know there are several others that have done the swap. Mine is a 7.3 with E4OD so that is what I'm working with. Going to leave it relatively stock sitting for a retro tow rig I think. Not to hi-jack, keep up the good work and all the pictures. ;Sweet
I've got the SD33T in my Scout and like it becasue that is the way it came. I would have to agree with txquigly though, on a swap I would shoot for something else. The SD33T made 101hp from the factory and the non-turbo SD33 made 75hp. I wheel mine in rocks and with 285/75/16's it does ok...
Very cool build. It is obvious the amount of time you are taking to build everything will make your truck stand out (aside from the ag tires and Rockwells) Good work and nice job getting pics of it all. This is great motivation for me on getting my IDI put in my 79.
So, this thread is old and I have done a lot of work to the Scout since I last posted.
After creating a plan of attack a friend and I tore the axles apart and put all new bearings and seals in them with an Aussie Locker in the front and a mini spool in the rear. The wheels are METHOD and...
It will mostly see slow speeds on the trail but I'll prob still put plates on it and cruise it into town once in a while. I'll be curious to see how it runs down the road at 55mph. I'm sure when I get a lift the 33's will drag it down considerably.
What kind of boost #'s do you get stock. I don't have a guage yet and was curious? I will be getting the exhaust done differently for sure. The PO used some 2.5 inch flex pipe w/ clamps in there and it is bothering me.
