    Any tips on 6.5 rebuild

Haha. Well...4 years, 6 months and about 45,000 miles later.... it runs sweet! In the hill of New York, the flat of NC, the mountains of Tennessee... I think the test drive is over. Its a keeper. LOL

Rebuilding a 6.5 for the first time

I understand what you are saying. But that engine never had a chance. My first time "putting it back in service" wouldn't be with a fully loaded horse trailer, sorry. I would have loaded the engine like smokey73 said and at least given my engine a chance to settle in. The guy probably ran...

Rebuilding a 6.5 for the first time

why would anyone in their right mind put a full horse trailer on the back of a freshly rebuilt engine that hasn't been broken in yet?

Rebuilding a 6.5 for the first time

Glad you got it in one piece. The Haynes manual does real good at supplying all the specs, but not much else. I just started mine today for the first time. Sounds sweet.

    Any tips on 6.5 rebuild

I should have her running today, folks. Engine is in the truck, trans is bolted up, today I put up the starter, connect the power steering pump, oil cooler, radiator and then fire it up. I will report back on how "sweet" she's running, lol

    No Power in 96

another 1987 Ford Dually Cabriolet Centurion Conversion

Looked at one like this a few years back, think it was an 86 with a 6.9. It ran good, only had 2 gears working in the C6 (first and third) and some fiberglass work needed done, not to mention the interior was trashed. I thought about it seriously, since that is a lot of doggone truck. But, he...

    Any tips on 6.5 rebuild

Thanks for the props...The heads are machine shop rebuilt- from a local shop that specializes in diesel engines. BTW, these heads didn't even have cracking between the valves, I was very surprised (not that it would have mattered, I would have used them anyways with no leaks). I don't use...

    turbo upgrade

I think you can get as much power as you need with the DS4. However, there is something to be said for the dead-on reliability of the mechanical pumps. I know this is why Towcat is running his this way. If you do decide for mechanical, head for a 4911 pump, that was used on the early 6.5...

    Any tips on 6.5 rebuild

Will do. Update: DS4 pump is in, Bosch injectors in, lower intake manifold in, water pump in. But I figure I can show you better than I can tell you, so I am gonna include a few pics this time.

    Boost pressure in 6.5l

You can run the stock pistons (as long as they are anodized top for best results) but you still gotta do something about the compression, either as silverfoot said by running thicker head gaskets, or by modifying the valve seats for lower compression. Otherwise, you are straight asking for...

Rebuilding a 6.5 for the first time

I will share this with you, you probably don't have as much time to read everything I have since I own my 6.5, and plan to keep it for a long time. So I will help you with the info I have learned over the past few months on my first 6.5 buildup. If the truck is a 92 or 93, it has the DB2...

    dream 6.5......

hmmm....main girdle, either 18:1 pistons or modify the head to get down to 18:1 compression, head studs, custom high flow intake, upgraded turbo set to about 25 psi, intercooler, marine injectors, custom reflash on the PCM, custom high-flow cold air intake, custom manifolds and crossover, 4 inch...

    End of Legacy.....IDI retirement.

:) this reminds me of about a year or so ago, I was still running the diesel K5, big guy gets up in the passenger seat, I hear this huge POW!! Then the guy says to me, "Why in the heck do I feel like I am leaning to the right?" I said, "I don't know, but if I were you, I'd hang on real tight to...

    Any tips on 6.5 rebuild

Very nice. When any one of us is putting an engine together, we need to make sure we got everything we need and also make sure we've covered all the ground that we can to avoid any mishappenings that could occur. Thank you gatorman21218 for the links and info.

    Any tips on 6.5 rebuild

Interesting idea, one that I will have to look into. Okay... Update... My progress has been kinda slow. I do auto repair on the side, and people have been coming in regularly with some time-consuming problems. I managed to get all my exhaust manifolds freed of all broken bolts, and I...

Ok Chevy peoples, want a 12V Cummins? Then this is for you...I found what you need!

Oh well, going by few viewers and no responses, I suppose this isn't the kind of thing you guys were looking for.

The never ending saga of my 6.9

Hmmm....had the tank algae crop growing nicely huh? It happens, the church I work for has an IDI Club Wagon that sits around, I told them to pour in some treatment but did they listen? Noooo.... but guess who they called to service it when it didn't run...

Ok Chevy peoples, want a 12V Cummins? Then this is for you...I found what you need!

Looking around on CL today, I'm always looking for stuff I don't need (and occasionally, stuff I DO need, LOL) BUT.... lo and behold not only a 97 12V engine for $1700, but not one but TWO sm465 trans with cummins adapters (out of 2 bread trucks) $800 each the 12v Cummins...

    New Bosch Injectors on Ebay

    dual mass??? single mass???

Dad's old 89 ECLB F250 always sounded like Santa Claus was coming... (jingle bells) Well, we ended up pulling the engine after a busted headgasket and mild hydrolock. That old dual mass contraption was only hanging on by a spring or 2 and ready to fly apart, anytime.... Replaced by a SMF and...

    New Bosch Injectors on Ebay

I just bought a set of these on Ebay, thought that I would post if there is anyone else who might need a set... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140393596399&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT The parts numbers he listed are correct for F and S code...

    No Power in 96

Any progress? The UVCH does sound like a likely candidate here. One short in that and that would cause half of your injectors to go silent. Plus it would turn on your CEL. Once the circuit closes, it will run normally and the CEL would go out.

    My buy of the year

Nicely done is all I can say.... nicely done!!! I love it when people use their noggin for more than a hat rack. My best deal was an 83 Caddy that didn't run and the guy gave it to me...took $4 worth of vacuum hose (which he burnt off pouring gas down the TBI) and a 30 amp fuse. After...

    Any tips on 6.5 rebuild

Okay... my update.... Got my HO oil pump (finally!) Checked all my oil clearances and the bottom end has been put back together. Did the timing cover, oil pan, heads with new ARP studs, and rocker arms today. I took pics, I'll post them when I have some extra time. Oh...I purchased a...
