    I'm considering building another project truck and have some tech questions. I have an 87 250 4x4. Looking at an 86 350 DRW 4x2. Will my 87 front axle and steering bolt right in the 86?? Will my C6 trans case bolt to the ZF5 trans?? I don't know if the body was the only change for the 87 model.

    By the way, the plow was on a 2006 F250 'Stroke. The mounting bracket is much different than my '87. If I do decide to use the plow it looks like the best thing to do is spend $600 and buy the one specific for my truck. Be lots of modification involved with this one.

    I recently got a really good deal on a Fisher snow plow and I am looking into doing a 2"-3" body lift on my 250. On both projects I see in manufactures notes "Not for diesels". Any idea why?? Am I missing something?? Why would it matter if the truck is a diesel??

    That's what my original plan was. But after looking at it I noticed the 6.9 uses 3 bolts at one end and the 7.3 uses 4 bolts. My 6.9 looks like it may have been weeping a little oil anyway.     Yes on the engine mounts. I just changed both of them to be sure. The issue I just ran into is the oil cooler. The are very different as far as the filter end and the bolt pattern on the other end. I'll have to use the filter from the 6.9 and the other end from the 7.3. Never done this before...

    I just bought a complete 7.3 with 21,000 miles [???] It came from a '92 ambulance. Doesn't look to be many issues to putting it in my '87 truck/C6. Would this engine have different specs than any other 7.3 ? No issues putting the Banks on it ?

    What I hope to end up with is leave it in "direct" until I get to highway speed ( 55 or more ) and then hit an "0D" switch. Just use "OD" when needed.     Thanks for all the input guys. The GV sounds like what I want. Just an OD on the highway. I may pull a camper or car occasionally but that's about it. If I'm in 4x4 I don't need OD anyway. E40D was suggested but I like the C6. Thanks again. Keep everyone posted.

    My next project is an overdrive for the C6. I found a Doug Nash unit and I found a few Gearvender units out there. The D.N. has an asking price of $650 which is cheaper than any of the GV units so far. Price is not really my concern though. Does either one seem to be better than the other?

    Truck specs

    There are small tags bolted to the diff. Well, there was when it was built. Mine are still there. They will have series of ID #s stamped on them. {4.10, 3.55, ect} Being 4x4 mine says 3.55 on the rear and 3.54 on the front axle. If yours has 4.11 on the rear it may be 4.10 on the front.     bad cylinoid or starter??

    I had the same problem on my 88 and 90. Changed the starters both times and all was good. Hope yours is the solenoid. It's much cheaper.

    Intermittent Ticking Noise

    My 6.9 did the same since I bought it 2 yrs. ago. Last week it threw a rod through the oil pan. Related? I don't know. But I now own a junk engine. It may be worth the effort to drop the pan and take look.

    I'v had alot of problems with ignition switches on all of mine { 86,87,88 and 89 } And my 90 150 too. Just a thought.
