I dont have internet where I live now so I'm using my phone. I am working on every automotive engine cummins makes. We see a little industrial stuff but its mostly b series, c series, m11s 14s and isx12 and isx15. I do everything from oil changes to rebuilds
Hey oil burners,
I have still got my idi and love it to death. But I am now working for cummins;Sweet:confused:! I am a certified diesel mechanic. Times are a changing for better or worse. If anyone has a question for.me. I live in central Virginia and my phone number is 804 767 0844
I had mine sonic checked and it was plenty thick enough. Dont remember the exact numbers off the top of my head. I bored mine 30 over. Remember when you bore it out 40 over, you are only taking 20 off the sides.
So its getting cooler out and I still dont have glow plugs and I am tired of using ether so I decided to plug her in tonight. Well the plug didnt spark like it normally does when it plugs in so I go and wiggle the cord by the block heater and GOOD NIGHT the cord sparks by the frame.
So upon...
Cavitation is an interesting thing. Some use SCAs and still get it. My friend has a 91 also and with over 400,000 miles without protection his engine still runs. I say don't worry about it and check the levels every oil change. Without tearing the engine apart and sonic testing, there is no...
Are y'all serious? The Tundra is the greatest truck out there! It towed the space shuttle!!!
And dont forget the honda ridgeline. What was that a minivan with a pickup bed?
That and a higher compression ratio increases blowby.
That reminds me of the time I went to change my oil. I was using my 3.5 gallon mop bucket like always and when I went to pull the bucket it was empty. HMMM somehow there was a crack in the bucket and all 12 qts leaked out. At least we...
OK to isolate a bad injector you undo one fuel line at a time. If the tick goes away then you've found the winner. To find a bad valve you need to do a compression test. Riotwarrior has a great thread going about compression testing and valve testing. I had a exhaust valve go bad and I...
I would do all the bushings. replace them with urethane bushings. Its not that much more work to replace the seals on the carrier if you are doing u-joints.
You will need a D50 hub socket. if my autozone has them then any parts store should.
Fun suff huh? I had that happen a few years ago. My cable was grounding on my coolant filter ball valve. It melted the handle off:eek:. It also burned through the cable halfway. My battery light was flickering, the rear abs light was on, the radio went to static and my headlights were...
If you can do a leakdown test that could be helpfull too. When I pulled my heads, I knew I had a bad valve but visual inspection showed nothing wrong. I set the head on a bench and sprayed pb blaster into the exhaust ports and the bad valve leaked it all out. the rest of the valves held the...
heres an example of exhaust chuffing. the compression test confirmed that the number 5 exhaust valve was bad. The guide was worn out.

Fleetcharge is NOT premixed. I dont get why people buy premixed coolant. The full strength stuff is like 3 bucks more plus a dollar for the distilled water. Its twice as expensive to buy the premixed stuff.
But yes its good stuff. You dont have to worry about the filter. Just buy the...
Yeah you need to pull the engine. So you need to determine how badly its leaking before you make that call.
And you are sure its the oil pan? These engines get so dirty its hard to determine where the leak is coming from. It could be valve covers leaking down, return lines leaking fuel...
