Thanks, I am completely open to good advice. I might re do the wiring a little. The wire does not touch the radiator at all but it is going to be exposed to a lot of heat. I have to assume the ends would get as hot as the water temperature since they are bolted to the top tank. I might try re mounting it to the core support. I will admit I didn't spend a lot of time working it out. I was sort of in the find a fix and just go mood LOL

Not much, I just had a couple of hours tonight. I got a clamp for my down pipe and finished welding it together. I wrapped the exhaust with insulation since it is real close to my oil filters. I also changed out the transmission fluid.

I also tracked down some wiring to get my temp gage working and ran the truck for about 25 min. It's a little odd shifting on the floor but all the gears and clutch seem to work well. At least as well as I can check woth no drive shafts in. Lol

I keep putting off finishing the drive line until all the engine components are hooked up. So far I just need to finish up my intercooler install, engine kill cable and a couple more gages. I could be driving this weekend!

Spent most of the day at the Carlisle car show with the wifey and kids but still got some work done.

The intercooler is now installed. I went back through and had to re cut the openings since the new core support mounts sit about 3/8 lower than before. After that I welded some bolts on for the top intercooler mount. After I could actually find my boots the piping was pretty straight forward. Almost a straight shot on both sides. I will have to get some pics tomorrow.
I did test fit the seat with the shifter. It just clears in neutral and is several inches into the seat in the lower gears so I have some bending to do. More tomorrow

Some pictures showing my intercooler pipes. I need to order some new boots to replace some of the old orange ones I have. Passenger side.

here you can see how close I am to the heater box. I do have a turbo blanket to add to help out with the heat.

Got a bunch of small things done and stated building my drive shaft. This puller set came in real handy pulling the carrier bearing off the drive shaft to use.

I didn't get much for pictures since I was in a hurry to get things together today. I was not sure I could pull it off but I managed a test drive on my birthday. The welds on the drive shaft were still scalding hot when I pulled her out onto the road. The only interior I had was a seat, I didn't even have the transmission cover on but she is mobile!

I must have done a decent job with the drive shafts. I got up to about 55 and could not detect any vibration or wobble. I still have a lot of small stuff to do but she goes.

Right off the bat my old turbo idi would beat my truck. I am not to worried though, I have not even started turning things up yet.

You are taking far more time cleaning up your truck though. I am trying to clean up and make the truck better but it is not a show truck by any means. All of my coatings have been a wire wheel, paint and go. You are still making steady progress.

At the end of the day I'm not sure it's worth it. Maybe it will buy me a little more time before the coatings fail again but I wouldn't bet on it. I really think you are doing it right. I went way to far.

Missy showed me a vid of you slinging that crew cab around in the yard last night. I was grinning ear to ear buddy. Very happy for ya.

I wouldn't worry about the DT. The potential is mountains higher with it than the IDI. Plus, you have a medium duty trans than can handle much much much more than the ZF5 too. Any and every shop that does any tractor pulling work has goodies for that DT.

A good place to get good, but cheaper upgrades for that DT is pulloff.com. Tons of tactor pulling parts for sale from guys either getting out of it or contantly upgrading.

Turn up the fuel a bit and see how things go.

Even though the truck is running there is a lot to finish up. I took some time and cleaned up some more wiring under the truck and got my backup lights working. I also hard mounted my fuel solenoid so it was not just dangling.

I also pulled my mid shaft back out to go back over the welds again. I just want to make sure they are in good. Then I took some time and painted both drive shafts.

Next I linked my boost gage in.

I put the pull cable in so I can actually shut the engine down from the cab lol no more popping the hood and reaching into a hot engine to shut it down.

Next I drilled and tapped the exhaust manifold for my pyro so I can see what it is doing.

I didn't get to bend the shifter but I am going to try to drive the truck to work tomorrow. I sure hope it goes well!

One a side note I have taken it on a few more drives and it maxes out at 65 mph. That's all it can do, it's just governed that low lol. Fortunately John sent me some videos on how to fix that.

Awesome! I like seeing the pictures and write up and thinking.. hey he listened to me there! Haha. With my 33s, 3.55s and zf I've had my 85 mph Speedo buried multiple times. I'm thinking I need to relocate my fuel filter. If I jump a curb (I do it more often than you'd think a person would... ha) I bottom out my filter. Cracked one, number 2 is dented. During mock up I had a short, idi sized one. Can't find it in the system. Just the big one.

Thanks, I take advice from someone who has done this seriously LOL I have not done everything the same but so far the only thing I would have changed is trying to push the engine even an inch farther back.

So I actually drove my truck to work today. Stock this injection pump leaves a lot to be desired. It feels like the engine hits the Rev limit before the turbo can even spool. It takes some lugging in gear to get any boost and it hardly has any boost.

Running down the highway like i mentioned I can get it up to a max of 65 with my tire size, that puts me at a max engine rpm of about 2400. At 65 the pyro is at about 6 to 700 on flat ground and water temps steady at 180. It does not want to get hot even with no fan. Boost is about 1 to 2 psi, I think I saw a max of 4 pulling a hill hard. These are just some baseline numbers before I start to play with some settings. I think I really would like an overdrive or some taller tires to help with rpm's.

More to follow
