im curious as to why you chose the 6.9 with its smaller head bolts/studs? are good 7.3 cores that hard to find?

From what I read he will offer both but the 6.9 will be first..I like a 6.9 better for there better cooling abilities... they have more coolant passages in the head...

Sounds expensive
I'm sure it will be...you have to pay to play. With that said, given the improvements in terms of power and reliability, it's a reasonable bet that it will be money well-spent. Actually, given that the timing work's already been done (and, more to the point, set properly by the very shop that designed the pump) and that the engine should be leaving the shop ready to drop in and go, it could even be a bargain ;Sweet

I agree but is it smart to spend 4 to 9k on engine when you can buy a newer truck thats easier to modify. I love my idi but i have spent alot to keep it running decent plus put new moose injectors in and a pump soon. I need to check timing but dont have the correct timing light to do so.

Depends on where your priorities lay...if you want a Ford and don't want to deal with an engine that requires electronics and don't want to deal with a conversion (i.e. dropping a 6BT in), but want all the power you can get, this may be the smarter route to go...or it may not. Again, it depends on the person's situation. This may not be the right route to go for your situation, but that doesn't mean it's a bad idea in general...this could be perfect for someone else.

I have so much in my truck that I am in it for the long haul unless I wreck it. So for me its and option for sure. My problem is my motor probably has another 200,000 in it or so.

if it was about "smart" a high percentage of this forum wouldnt even own trucks, let alone diesel trucks.

This came along at potentially a great time for me, my 6.9 gave up the ghost in July and I've had trouble finding a rebuildable one that's not way overpriced. But, about four months before mine blew I put a Moose Jr. on it, I'd at least like to be able to use it to save a little money even if I had to send it back to Mel to have him install it on the new motor in order to get it timed properly. Regardless though, it's a great idea for those of us in the IDI world.
