wow that's a twin to my dually! the points are to be set at .16. the 304 is an INTERNATIONAL ENGINE!!! :backoff the ONLY AMC in a fullsize pickup is a 401. the scouts had the 258. look at the dipstick, the bracket to the motor MAY have 2 bolt holes, the higher one up is a 345/392, lower one is a 304. usually 8 out of 10 times a 392 is a 4bbl.

Its a 345 according to the block stamp.......and it runs.
I set the point gap, discovered that the # 6 and #4 plug wires were reversed and fired it up off of a mason jar of fresh gas.
The accelerator pump is dumping fuel all over the intake, but it ran and idled immediately.
There was dust falling out of the fuel lines, so next job is to flush the tank and see if it is usable.

Well... Glad you got it running. I'll bet someone mixed you the ignition wires and thats why it wouldn't run....;Sweet

I blew the fuel lines out and put some fresh fuel in the tank. It now officially drives and I am headed back out to see if I can get the dump to work.

That Rebel Is rare unit and way cool, I meant an AMC in an international wouldnt have happened back then. Not enough torque to move one of those tanks.

There are lots of electronic ignition options for that engine if you get serous about that truck. You can even go fuel injection

Glad I could help. Set the timing around 4 degrees and id try to find a 2bbl motorcraft carb, they're cheap and simple which = reliable! I've tried the 2bbl holleys, you get some more pep but they're usually too stubborn to even run good. Even on the coldest days my black truck lights right off after a full revolution or 2 and runs great. People say AMC engines are easier to find parts for....not true, although there is a slightly larger aftermarket (intakes/msd dizzys) I have the same difficulty finding parts for my friends 360 as I do finding harvester parts. OHHH and run autolite 85 plugs, for some reason the part stores list 303 plugs but they do not go into the cylinder enough!!! Part #s make life easier when speaking to counter clowns too....cookoo

The 1972 and 73 IH's had the vertical split in the grille. If I had a picture of the dash I could tell you what year it was. Eason
