I think it would be cheaper to fly you and your family down here, feed you, give you quarters and fly you back than it would be to screw it up myself. I love you, man.

If you can work on idi's you can work on vw's, the only goofy thing about them is setting the timing belt. Once you've done that a dozen times it also becomes easy.
Hardest part of this project was getting the engine out of the old chassis, with all the broken mounts, bent bolts, and tweaked frame it was fighting me a little. But once I had the engine hanging, all the pieces just came together.

I agree whole heartedly!!! My first German car was a 2002 VW NB TDI. I was intimidated by everything I heard about German Engineering.
Once I gave it a go, it’s not bad at all. The compactness just means you will have to remove extra parts sometimes to access what you want, but not all the time.
And the German Engineering, just means you better like to tinker and maintain.
