WTB F250 Long bed

My truck used to be used as a roofing truck for a company. The inside of the bed is now all droopy and has been beat in. Im looking to purchase a bed that is in decent shape on the inside. I got the hookup on lineX but i feel it would be a waste on a bed that has been beat to death. Let me know if anyone has anything for my 89 F250 long bed. Thanks

Just a thought, but you could also look at long-bed F-150's...AFAIK the beds are the same and I have a feeling that a 1/2 ton bed's not going to be as badly beaten-up as a 3/4 ton bed.

I'd offer you mine, but I'll bet money that mine's in worse shape than yours, between the beat-up metal on the inside (which is the only reason why I keep a POS plastic bedliner in there) and the salt air eating the outside metal away...

OK, question.... Back fees, what is up with that? In Indiana and Illinois (the states I am familiar with) your plates are good for 1 year.... in my case the middle of August to the middle of the following August for $***, or Illinois.... for 1 year starting the month the plate was initially issued to you, so in IN... all my plates are due at the same time (Vehicles and trailer), in Illinois, they are spread out through out the year....

But, if I park a vehicle, and the plates expire, ok.... as long an I am not driving it, it is not an isssue, if I drive it, I could get popped for an expired plate...... so for example

We had a vehicle, that had a knock in the engine, (Later discovered it was a wrist pin). It was parked, a couple years later, it was put back into service due to another vehicle that was OOS.... the plates on the truck were expired. We went to the license branch, paid, at the time, $48 for a new plate and slapped them on the bumpers and went down the road, until the engine blew...... Indiana is the same, park it.... if the plates expire, oh well, just don't drive it on the road..... want it legal, go buy a plate at the current 1 year rate (plates are based on value in Indiana, rather than a flat fee like in Illinois) and drive on.....

I think you have to file with the DMV in Ca. and tell them vehicle is in-op. Otherwise this happens. Then you have to pay that back registration fee's plus like late fee's and stuff. I'm sure it would'nt be worth it for that truck unfortunatly.

Justin has it right, but let me elaborate a bit. Basically, if you park a vehicle, you have three options...one is to pay $10 and place the vehicle in "non-operation". Once you've done this, you can leave the vehicle in a privately-owned place (your garage, for example) without any concerns for as long as you want...however, if you park it on a public street, you risk the vehicle getting impounded.

The second option is to just keep paying the annual registration fees...there's no penalty or such, but that can add up quickly for a vehicle you're not driving.

The third option is what this guy did...he parked the vehicle, didn't put it on non-op, and ignored the registration renewal notices. In CA, that has a cumulative effect...first, there are late fees that can sometimes double or even triple the registration fees for one year second, once one year has passed, the whole process starts anew...you then have to pay the fees for the previous year(s) AND for this year. And, if you've done this for 3 or 4 years, the registration fees can easily get to the point where they're more expensive than the vehicle is worth...at that point, you're better off parting it out.

Frankly, given that it really isn't that hard to avoid this, I have difficulty feeling sympathetic for the guy, and given that the money to keep the roads in good repair has to come from somewhere, I don't really see anything wrong with this. If you can't afford to pay the fees, put the vehicle on non-op until you can...I had to do this with my truck a few times when I was a broke college student...

But, one big difference I think between IL/IN and Cali is out here, the license plate is issued to a person, and it registered to be used on a paticular vehicle. If I sell the vehicle, I remove the plate, and transfer the registration to the "new" vehicle, and any remaining "registration value" is credited toward the registration of the new vehicle. I believe in Cali, the plate is issued to the vehicle, and it registed to the owner.

For example, my Dad was issues a license plate, plate number XX#### (I know the number, but security......) and it was first installed on his 1979 Ford Fairmont Wagon in 1984. The Fairmont Wagon was replaced by a 1985 E-150 Custom Van (vans are a grey area, the can run car or truck plates) in 1988, and that plate was transferred to the "new" van. The 85 Van was replaced by a 1994 E-150 Custom Van in 1995, and the same plate was transferred to the "new" van. This is the same physical plate, in I think 2010, the State of Illinois started to replace the plates, because the plates were starting to fail... the "paint" was flaking off of them, and some were just the silver metal plate. He was issued a new plate, with the same exact number... so he has "owned" that plate number since the early 80's.... and when this van is replaced, the plate will have a home on the bumper of the replacement vehicle.....

Remember, they also have a 4x4 tax. Never seen so many lifted 2wd trucks in my life, but nobody wants to pay the extra tax each year for a 4x4 rig.

Scott, that's $10 paid once (or something like that; I can't remember the exact number) and good until you decide to register it again. I placed my old '79 300SD on non-op in 2008, paid the $10 then, and haven't paid a dime since (the car's since been scrapped, but I've been too lazy to run over to the DMV to turn the plates in...but, there's no rush, either).

And, yeah, license plates stay with a specific vehicle, not with the owner. Furthermore, if one plate goes missing, you can't simply get a replacement plate with the same number...you have to apply for and receive two brand-new plates and turn the other one in. In fact, they refuse to transfer "standard" plates from one vehicle to another (although they are willing to do so with vanity plates)...I tried this with two of my M-B's (one needed new plates and I had a set of the '70's blue plates on the other that I wanted to put on the first one), and the DMV wouldn't let me...I had to get brand-new plates. Seems like a waste of resources to me; besides, it'd be cool to have an old set of blue or even black plates but the DMV won't allow it

What 4x4 tax? Is this something for new vehicle purchases?

I pay out the nose for a weight fee on my truck, but that has nothing to do with the fact that it's a 4x4...it has to do with the truck's empty weight. With that said, it is ridiculous...instead of paying $50, I'm paying something like $250 to register my truck every year but most of that's in the weight fee, which is charged to ALL commercial vehicles (and, unfortunately, any pickup truck must be registered as a commercial vehicle unless it has a permanent camper shell with a carpet kit inside)...

reg on that truck is 120-180/yr. go more than 3 months out, that goes to 160% of the reg. two years out, that goes to 300% of fees due. It's kali's way of getting cars off the road.
