I can tell you from recent experience that even with all the washers removed, decent attempts to clean the bore and the use of a torque wrench, you still may loose compression. I think that depending on how many times the injectors have been touched, leaked combustion gasses or the amount of crud that may have NOT gotten cleaned out before someone installed them in the past will have a lot to do with how well that little copper washer will seal. The heads I took off my truck no longer allow a seal.
I guess that nozzle seat cleaner is important, but even if you find that your injectors are tight, and relatively clean, no extras parts, check the bores!! I don't know really how to go about removing pits/grooves/hardcore buildup yet without that tool. Putty knife?
