OK Mel- Glad U said "to this point".I used to haul a lot of small antique dozers in out of hershy.The guy had a nice IDI with a dump bed.He would load a dozer on the bed -by driving on his trailer then up on the bed,then put one on his trailer.The 2 in my avatar are his.He wanted a powerstroke so bad.
"not enough power-low mileage IDI nice condition,I told him turbo it! If he breaks down he will be able to get out of it on his own.Nope he got a PS from texas-put a nice dump bed on it like his old one.Called a week later from Buffalo NY area,got a dose of bad fuel,some one put 4 injectors in it.I forgot how much $$ but a lot.Next he got into western PA and called again-needed a tow to Hershey-stopped running again.2 trips 1 for his load 1 for his truck.
4 more injectors and more $$.He Moved to washington had computor problems on the while moving.He regrets the change. Sure the stroke has more power than my turboed IDI,but over the long run when loaded how much time is saved? My last engine cost less than his repairs. I'll keep the IDI as long as it holds together,its not a play truck it is a working truck.I would love to pretty it up though,cause it looks awful after having towed most of its hard life-bed is beat up(had lots of heavy metal hauled around the goosneck hitch).The cab is real solid -nose is good chassis is good(needs rubber bushings) front seats need attention.But I bet the truck will still last a long time.A deer attacked the drivers door.I bet if I put new V-belts on it I could hook up and haul quit a few more loads with no major problems. "BUILT FORD TOUGH"
