You can't pass state inspection anymore without a muffler, even with a turbo. First time that station gets caught they can't inspect for 3 months. The second time it's 6 months, and the third they can't ever inspect again.

I go to a little one in a town of 300 and the guy told me sorry he can't he is on #2 next time he can't inspect anymore. He said it just needs to be on during inspection and told me o just take it off when I get home LOL.

Apparently they are really cracking down though. He knows another station in a small town that's been completely shut down because of it.

So now, what's the shortest 4" in and out muffler I can get?

Location--Silverton OR, but your in Texas, ya didn't get lost did ya all.:D

Ya, they are really getting tough in TX on everything pertaining to vehicles. My Son lives in Corpus, keeps me upto date. PITA to install then remove a muffler, Hiway Patrol may say something about that. Four inch mufflers are expensive, get a straight thru and leave it on.

IN MY OPINION

a cheap turbo flow muffler the in-out is probably going to be 2-1/2-3"adpt from that ,get a hole saw and drill the baffel and leave it on the truck now you have a muffler and the straight pipe effect ..because if you remove after inspect ,they can fine you for altering after the fact

What are you talking about it says Tyler Texas for location.....

LOL

I want straight pipe. I don't wanna spend big money so I think I will find a super cheap eBay muffler and just take the innards out and out it in there.

Hey, thanks for the link to ebay. Just bought the 3.5 shorty muffler for my 99. My underside is all sooty, no pipe from the muffler to the rear, now I can change that.

How about getting a flowmaster muffler. Knock the baffles out, weld a straight pipe thru it. DONE, you have a muffler but it is straight piped;Sweet

Do the bylaws say it must be 'permanently affixed'? If not, roll up with one clamped to the end of your exhaust pipe and never mess with removal/adding again!

Do they make 4" glass packs? one could cut it in half, remove insides, weld back together and have an expansion chambered straight pipe. It will help to dampen any sudden changes in ambient air pressure that might harm the engine.
