Tank vent mod question

I was looking at this- http://www.thedieselstop.com/faq/9497faq/tipstricks/fueltankvent.php3 because I've been thinking about doing that mod to my tank(s) at some point (I need to drop the rear tank anyway to see if I can figure out why the truck seems to suck air if I run it off the rear tank)

One thing I don't quite understand, at the end of the article he mentions something about taking the line and "cap" from the original rollover valve, drilling a hole in the 5/8" vent hose and attaching it via a tee, held in with a zip tie I assume when he says cap he means vent cap? and he is just adding a vent to atmosphere?

Have any of you guys done this?

Yup looks to be that's what he did to eliminate the vacuum created by a closed system.

Safetywise I think "T'ing" in the rollover valve would be best.
My system currently just vents to the atmosphere but the strainer vent cap is colloecting enough dust form the dirt roads that I'll be looking at redoing that system this winter when the truck is down.

When I modded my tanks I did not add any venting to the outside and as long as the return line was going into the right tank (had the tank switch go bad and it pulled from one and returned to the other, currently working on getting rid of the switch. ) I had no problems. If you use venting caps it should not be a problem.

One question, what exactly does this mod do? I don't quite see the benefits of doing it

It allows for fast filling of the fuel tanks.

I did that mod & fill my tanks in less than 5 minutes.
