This '87 I just got needs a little {very little } TLC. One issue is the tach won't work right. It only goes up to about 1000-1100 or not at all. Loose wire maybe? The sensor is on the pump, correct?

The sensor is at the front of the round gear housing in front of the pump. It will be a bi hexagonal plug with two wires coming out and sits at about 2'oclock.
You might not have a sensor, mine didn't and the gauge would float around sometimes... The wiring could be shot at the connectors too.
