when i drive my 92 it will rev out to 3 grand and shift super hard the rpm guage dosent work and the od off button flashes but when i put my foot back in it the tach works and the light goes off it happens randomly but when its not doin that it shifts and drives fine im almost positive its not the trans i think it maybe a sensor of some sort the old man i bought it from said it did this b4 and it had to do with the throtle some how he couldnt give me anymore info

Im pretty sure the tach has to work for the e4od to work right, never had an auto truck but i think i herd someone else talk about it

Dyoung is right, if you are getting no RPM reading or an erratic one it is probably that part it's called a tach sender. You have to get one out of the junkyard, or at the stealer. Will cost you about $50. The other thing is there is a sensor somewhere on the injection pump called an FIPL, and it must be adjusted correctly. That info I don't have off the top of my head. I recommend you park it until you get this fixed if you can, cause this is how people tear up E4OD transmissions. The problem results from the tranny(electronic) trying to communicate with the engine(all mechanical) Ford's interface devices were not so hot here at the beginning. It just is a failure intolerant system.

Also make sure that FIPL is adjusted correctly, it is imperative to the life of your tranny. So is keeping the fluid really fresh, you just cannot get away with the normal margins for error with the E4OD.
