I am getting ready to start putting together my crew cab project and have decided to use my 2wd cc frame instead of the 4x4 frame to build my 4x4.
I want to do a reverse shackle on the front using rear springs instead of the worn out 4in lift springs I have now. I have seen others do it and the ride is said to be better and they will also provide a lift at the same time.
My plan is to use the stock rear brackets in there stock 4x4 location in the back with the swinging part of the rearend shackles for movement. In the front I plan to box the frame and weld a piece of square tubing to mount the front spring brackets to.
Being that the rear springs are longer than the front I know Im going to have to move the front mounts out a little over an inch from stock. I also need to get center pin measurements to ensure that the axle is far enough forward. I suppose I would rather have it farther forward than backward but have not looked it over enough to be sure.
I would like to get everybody's opinions as well as other reverse shackle conversion pics.
This truck will be built for hauling gooseneck and dump trailers. If you ask a couple of the guys that have met me, I use my truck to the fullest so it needs to be done properly with plenty of strength.
Once I get this step done it will be time to gut and insulate the cab, paint the frame and drop in on the low millage 6.9s or 7.3s Ive collected. I plan to trade a dana 60 and a crew cab frame for a 6.9 with documented 65k with a new banks turbo kit and a 7.3 with 110k from an ambulance. This trade will also come with a bunch of body parts ect. Now all need is a gearvendors or ranger overdrive box lol.
Thanks for any input and please post any pics that you may have.
