rear flare lights

There is a fuse for the rear flares running lights on my truck that will burn if I connect it to my trailer, I know since they went off once and I found the fuse burned I replaced it and noticed the running lights on the trailer now would work but after a few minutes they went off again and the fuse was burned too. I'm not sure but it could be when I back up the trailer.

Anyone knows what this is?

I was having a similar problem with Goldie in,Lisbon with the slide in.
It turned out to be the wiring on the 7-way plug up in the bed for the P/O's 5'er.

I switched over to using the 4-way tee'ed into the taillight harness and haven't had a problem since.

I wrote it off to a grounding issue.

That circuit also powers the running lights on your trailer plug. You most likely have an issue with the wiring on the trailer, not your truck.

Build yourself a temporary fused power supply, and start testing the circuits on your trailer. I'd bet you've got a bare wire touching the frame of the trailer somewhere and causing the circuit to blow a fuse. If your trailer is like most I've seen, it's wiring quality leaves something to be desired...

I think the same Ryan, is may be something on the trailer itself I will look for a short in it.

Here is an update, I have not checked it yet but when I drive the trailer and I shift to reverse the flare and trailer position lights go off and the fuse is burned. Put another fuse and tried again and same thing happened. Anyone know why?

does your factory plug have an output for reverse lights? Perhaps it does, but your trailer doesn't, and it grounds to the trailer frame somewhere and blows the fuse?

My factory Ford plug is a 7 pin, but it's the huge Semi truck style, not the standard 7 pin RV plug. Mine's got a reverse light output on it, as well as a circuit to charge a battery on the trailer...

Other things to check is how your trucks plug is wired in- is it factory or aftermarket? T-taps and exposed wires, or nice plug-n-play style?

I've got the EWD's for my 92 I can look at if you think it'll help...

There are no reverse lights on the trailer so that could be why although I driven another trailer a few months ago and it didn't happen when I put it on reverse I'm sure I must had to backup that trailer a few times. I have the 6 way plug and I don't know where the reverse light goes. Mel rewired the plug some time ago it was a mess but the controller did not work at the time so there was no way to test it. Everything works fine now except this lights go off every time I put it on reverse and burns the fuse.

Ryan do You have a diagram of the wires on our trucks? Maybe that way I can follow them and rewire them all.

Which circuit do you want? The trailer plug wiring, or the brake/taillights?

If you don't have the problem with other trailers, I'd suspect your trailer before I'd chase problems in the truck.

Try simply unplugging the reverse light plug on the side of the tranny and see if that prevents the fuses from blowing. That way, you can isolate the problem to the reverse light circuit.

Will do that. I'm really not good with electricity, it is simple but it's just not my thing. I'd like the plug wiring, meaning from the plug to the cab/engine compartment or werever it goes.

Thank You Ryan, I finally had some time to work on it last night and found 2 wires that were on the wrong place. The black wires comes to be the ground on the trailer and not the withe one while I had the black one as if it where the one to charge the battery. Also the one charging the battery was split connected for the brakes, wich is why the controller was showing an error (overload) every time I had to stop fast.

I didn't have the chance to drive it but I checked all the lights and backup lights and all was good with out bune fuses.
