pyro quit!

So today I noticed my pyrometer has quit working. Its not that old either about 6 months. I checked all the connections and they look good. Is there anyway to check it or should I start looking for receipts? And by check it I mean is it the gauge itself, the lead wires or the thermocouple. I think I am ruling out the possibility that the drivers side bank stopped producing exhaust.

where is ground on your pyro located if its not on the engine try putting it there

Ground? I guess I dont understand. Ill I have is 2 wires (red and yellow) coming off the thermocouple going to the gauge.

ok guess that doesnt apply to yours sorry I did not know they made a full mechanical pyro, mine has power and ground as well as the probe wires, sorry for the confusion

Well its working now. Dunno what happened. I guess Ill keep an eye on it to see if it acts up again

And I'm assuming your reading my signature. Yeah my pyro is just like any pyro (probe, wire, gauge). I dont think they make them any other way. Its just all of my other gauges that are mechanical.

Red is negative--Yellow is Positive connections on the gage from the thermocouple, the body of the thermocouple has to have a good connection to the engine. . Now the gage has a battery positive+ and negative-.

Your pyro sounds like mine Jim. Nothing electrical about it other than the very very small amount of current it measures that has to do with the heat coming out of the engine. I have had to replace the lead wire. Cutting and splicing the lead wire can ruin the accuracy of it. All you should need is a good probe, good gauge and good connections at both ends. Is any of this stuff used or is it all new as of 6 months ago? If it's all new my first suspicion would be the connection, second the probe and third the gauge. The lead wire should be fine as long as it hasn't been cut/spliced or otherwise doctored or damaged.

I guess I will check my grounding then.

my gauges are a year old. however I did not buy the thermocouple until six months ago. so while the gauge was installed a year ago, it was only hooked up 6 months ago.

I once ruined a good gauge by leaving the area for the backlight bulb empty and crap got into the gauge, other than that or being kicked, beat up or dropped or subjected to other severe abuse that gauge should last years. The connections are very failure intolerant since we are only talking very small voltage to begin with, so any loose connections or grounding out of bare wires cannot be accepted.
