need help now(not ford)

since no one goes to the other sections i will post here. my gf's family has a 1999 suburban with the 6.5turbo. recently the truck just started randomly quitting on them and now it wont run at all. it used to take only a couple minutes to restart before but now it wont do anything. plz help and don't be mad for posting in the ford section

Sounds like the PMD on the injection pump has died. I don't know a whole lot about them, other than most places will replace the whole IP rather than just the PMD, and they are a ROYAL PITA to work on... We just replaced the heads on a 00 we have at work, it's been a while since I worked on something so poorly designed...
The injection lines of course run over the valve covers, which is no big deal, BUT, they run under the intake manifold

I'm going to agree, it's probably the PMD heat sink issue. Those DS4 pumps are expensive and a PMD upgrade isn't cheap but it's not as bad. Never worked on one though and I don't know your skill level or relationship with gf's parents so can't advise you on if you want to take it on or not.

Check out Heath Diesel, they have a new PMD with relocation kit and harness that's rater popular with the GM crowd:

Price ain't bad actually, considerinf if you're about to piece one yourself you're looking at a bit over $300 for a new PMD, then it's $50 or so for the harness, and you'll have to come up with some heatsink too... BD Diesels sells these parts separately if you wanna go down that road.

FWIW I think a new DS4 is around 1000-1500 bucks depending on upgrades and where you get it. Certainly more money than a DB2. Interestingly, the military Humvees still use the mechanical 6.5 and use the DB2 pump built for GM. I have always wondered if the "Downgrade" would work with the 6.5 and if so if it would be a benefit or a negative. Also I understand a mechanical DB4 is made for the 6.5 in marine buildups.... can't say that I have put my hands on one but it would be way cool that's for sure. I really don't see why not if you aren't in a state that does emissions testing really, going all mechanical would be the best thing to do for one of these trucks in terms of increasing reliability. To keep the smoke level reasonable and aneroid valve or smoke puff limiter might be in order.
