i just wanted to add that the gauge reads little over 1/4 tank.
With only a 1/4 tank of fuel, it's possible that the pickup (commenly known as a shower head) has broken off or disintegrated (see pic), that will cause the lift pump to suck air resulting in a hard start or not at all.

i replaced the sending unit with no change so i rechecked the fuses and i didnt see the break at the very top the other day. It fixed it i drove it around drove great, that was yesterday

For the E4OD trans to shift properly, the Tach and Speedo has to be working. From what your saying above, the Trans. is now shifting OK.

Not knowing which alternator you have, whether it's internally regulated or external regulator with the regulator mounted on the pass side fender.
Tha voltage meter wire comes directly off the key switch thru the VM and then to the regulator or the Alternator.
Pic below of an internal regulator, the green wire (I) should be from the VM

Or it could be similar to the second pic, pic shows charge lamp, but yours is the VM.

What that has to do with the Price of rice in china Bill .

he is cranking but not getting kabooooom clink clink clink , It ran before and ran in the am before it cut off ( his post #12 ) . which leads me to believe it's fuel related unless he is not getting power to crank that's a different story

Today i started up before i went to work i let it idle then as soon as i got back in it to head to work it cut off and wouldnt start back up no smoke coming from exhuast just kept turning over. I would feather the throttle and it would try to start and smoke alittle but thats it.

i just wanted to add that the gauge reads little over 1/4 tank.

What Bill is saying is; when the OP got the gauges working, he stated the Fuel Gauge read:

i just wanted to add that the gauge reads little over 1/4 tank.

When the fuel pickup (showerhead shown in the picture) breaks off, the "bottom" of the tank is now at about the 1/4 tank level, since the pickup doesn't now reach the physical bottom of the tank. If he got it running, and had just enough fuel in the tank for the end of the tube to use, now that he has used some fuel, and possibly parked in a different position so the fuel now does not reach the pickup...... so he is "out of fuel" which also means he is not getting fuel to the injectors as you suggest, since it is not picking up fuel..... this is a very common issue on these trucks, and I am sure will be on the newer trucks as they age, as I know my 03 has the same showerhead in the tank..... so I am just waiting for it to happen to me........

I put 5 gallons of diesel in it because I figured if the in tank filter came off I could add fuel and it would run, But nothing changed. I cracked the injector line nothing no fuel. I cracked the fuel filter under the hood and fuel came out. Does that mean I have a bad pump? How do I check the pump?

On top of the Pump there is 2 electrical connectors one of them responsible to run the pump, Make sure they are connected securely am not sure if there is fuse related to the IP or Not but it seems like you not getting fuel pass the filter .

Was the fuel filter under the hood full to the prim or not ? crack one or 2 of the injectors open and crank it and see if you get fuel around the injectors .

Are you asking how to check the lift pump, verify that it is pumping? I would do that with the schaeder valve. It's located at the top of the fuel filter, pointing toward the driver's side of the vehicle. It looks like an air valve stem on your tire. Hold the center stem in, like you're letting air out of a tire, and crank the engine. If the lift pump is working properly, you'll get fuel. Have a rag there to catch the fuel, to avoid a mess.

This method will pretty much single out the lift pump. Cracking open a hard line at an injector would test the lift pump, the fuel filter, and the IP, but it would not pinpoint which. I think it's better to test things individually.
