the airbag feature is not as rare as you may think. I can show you two cars (300sd) with them over at the shop right now. the car look like it has ABS too. the only thing that I haven't seen too often is the blue the car wears. but back in the early to mid 80's there was many MBZ colors that didn't have a long run at all.
You're right; sorry...my mistake. I was thinking of the W123 when I said that. I just double-checked, and ABS actually was apparently not an option on the '85 300SD...it was standard equipment (as per
this site, although some people argue that it was an option, so I can't say with any certainty). Air bags (on the driver's side) were apparently optional on '84 and '85 model year cars (and became standard in '86), and were expensive options so they weren't THAT common...but, as you pointed out, considerably more common that I had said in my original post.
The W123 was apparently available with ABS and a driver's air bag between 1981 and 1985 for the European market, but those options weren't available on the W123 in the U.S. market.
You learn something new every day, eh?
Freight, looking at the replacement seat covers before buying would be a good thing...the good news is, replacing the seat covers is a pretty straightforward task. I would have changed the front seat covers in my car, but I decided to just run the poor thing into the ground and use the $$ I would have spent on the seat covers to help save up for a replacement car...
As to the WVO, it depends on how the system was set up, but most likely yes...make sure you don't have any water in the drum (or whatever you use to collect the WVO; I wouldn't recommend pumping the WVO straight from the vat into the car's tank), filter the WVO nice and good, and pour in. I don't know how exactly this system is set up (each install is somewhat unique, but generally easy to figure out). Generally, you want to start on "normal" diesel (either Bio-D or dino-D) and wait until the cooling system's up to operating temperature before switching, then switch back to the "start-up" fuel shortly before shutting the engine down in order to purge the WVO out of the fuel system. This assumes that the tank and/or fuel lines are heated by coolant...
