just shutting off

a friend has (i think) a 99 f350 diesel and he was telling me that his truck would jut die when he is driving it then he turns the key to restart and it starts fine, and sometimes he said it acts like it wants to shut off then straightens up, and sugestions on what to look for? thanks in advance.

Mine died, then would start back up after cranking her over for awhile. I had a cracked fuel filter housing. He may want to change the fuel filter while he's in there. May have a faulty CPS too.

i forgot to mention, he took it to the shop and they said no codes. he says it fires right back up after it shuts down.

I agree, the 7.3's are famous for them.

If he can't wait and needs to get one locally. Try to find an International dealer or NAPA for them. The dealer's price is ridiculous.

I had a simular problem but with a 94. Changed the CPS still did it, so i checked the batt cables and they were not making good connections. So check the simple stuff first.
