Intake temps

I am going to install an air temp gauge on my truck, I was wondering what the intake temps I should expect when I get my ats turbo on my 7.3 running. I'm plannin on running an air to water inter-cooler, which is the reason for the gauge, it will tell me if the pump quits on me... plus it'll be cool to know how much of a difference it makes.

I ask because I don't know what temp range I should be looking for, I found some on ebay that go from -22-158 F. I'm pretty sure with Tx heat if my intercooler isn't running my temps will rocket way past those temps.

They have tranny temp gauges that go up to 300, does anyone know if the sending unit would work in open air?

Cool thing is that the digital ones respond INSTANTLY to changing temps, not like the analog gauge that has to move slowly. And you can have as many similar-type thermocouples as you want, with a selector switch.. So you could monitor anything you want with one instrument...

Otherwise, yes the trans temp gauge sender should work fine...

Damn I wasn't planning on spending 200 but it does look pretty cool... does anybody know how hot non i/c systems get at the intake? just lookin for a ballpark figure...

That setup looks like it will work, but it seems the label on the back of the meter shows 0-400 degrees C, meaning it will read out in celsius.

It could be configurable with jumpers internally, I don't know... Just know that it may be a little off-kilter from what you're expecting.

wait would that even matter? how could a thermocouple know whether it's reading C or F?

I does say that in the description, I was looking at the little silver label on the back of the meter... Some of those panel meters have a jumper block to change the units of measurement, but I dont know if that one does.

For 8 bucks though, I would learn my intake temps in celsius...
