Those controllers are know for going bad and usually take out a few glow plugs in the process.

A quick test on em with a test light will work also.

Hook the test light lead up to the positive side of the battery and disconnect the connector to the glow plug and put the test light probe on the GP terminal. If it lights up, it's good.

For a cheaper fix, why not go push-button controlled GP's? I wired it like this and my Wait To Start light comes on also, so if you wire it up like that and the light still doesnt come on, then the bulbs burned out or something.

That was my next thing to try, i was trying to do it so I wouldn't have anything extra to wire up ya know.

how do I go about switching it to the sold state?

There's a Tech Article in the top of this section. To me, switching to solid-state sounds more in depth and expensive than the manual GP switch.

There is someone on this site selling a good solid state controller and harness. Look in the marketplace. It is fairly recent, but may be buried in his post. Happy Hunting.
