help removing valve cover.

I need your help to remove my passenger side valve cover. With the turbo and AC I cant find a way to shimmy it out.

So if anyone has ideas, experience, please chime in, im at a loss.

I've always ended up removing the rear injector and it comes out OK.

Its been awhile but I think I removed my alternator and fuel filter housing(changed my fuel filter why I had it off) and glow plug relay. I had to replace my gasket and it was a PITA if I remember. The gasket was easy but like you are seeing now its a pain to get the valve cover off. Good luck

remove bolts from tranny, remove bolts from motor mounts, use hoist and pull engine from truck. Now it should be easy to get to the valve cover...

dont forget the wires

have you taken the fuel filter off? i could get mine that way. after the filter the filter head is not to hard to pull if needed. a couple of wires to lines and two bolts.

You can get it off without pulling all that off but you'll be fighting it the whole time. At the very least pull the fuel filter off & you should have just enough room. I got mine off without removing anything....all I remember was lots of this & alittle of this & some how I got it off & back on again.
Not the way I would recommend to people though....

lol yeah i have the fuel filter off and was thinking if the filter pedastal was off it could come out. well, ill just have to try a couple of your recomendations, thanks.

In a 7.3l You remove the alt then the fuel pedestal. I don't see what turbo kit You have but for the looks I would guess ats first and then banks by the look of that shield. Hypermax is the best, You can get to anything on the engine WITH OUT messing with the turbo. You could try and raise the pass side of the engine to give You more clearance.

looks like a hypermax to me, they are the only ones that use the factory air cleaner. i'm gonna go through this next weekend before i put my turbo on.

Its a CTS turbo (canadian turbo systems) I was told that is fairly identical to a non wastegated ATS turbo...

but yeah, looks like the alternator, and the pedastal removed. Is there anything tricky, special I should know about either? What a PITA for a vavle cover gasket.Shhhesh.thanks.

Hypermax don't look like that on the engine or at least the pulse version, but You are right they re use the factory air cleaner.

Just finished replacing the vavle cover gaskets. Yes it was a PITA but I managed to remove the passenger side valve cover with just removing the fuel filter and the filter head. So, I tightend everything back up and went for a drive. Got home and noticed that oil was still burning off the motor, noticing this was the reason I went looking for a leak and changed the gasket in the first place. What are the chances this is old oil that is being burned off from before? I tightend up the back two valve cover bolt just to be sure.

Mine smoked pretty good first time after I replaced the gaskets, but I smelled it for a couple of days. I would say its just left over oil on the manifold and any other debri that was knocked on the manifold when trying to get the valve cover off.

Right, so you think I shouldn't worry about it unless it continues for more then a couple days?

another question, could the temps on the exhaust manifold get hot enough for the oils flash point?

Have to ask....did you make sure ALL of the old gasket is off? I installed my drivers side (thankfully drivers side ) & noticed a good oil leak. Took it apart the next morning & discovered it was a little hunk of the old gasket that was still on. Pulled that off & haven't had a leak since. Just keep an eye on your oil level & remember if you have a good leak it will leak as soon as it starts. Your manifold won't be hot enough to burn it so it will drip onto the ground. Might not do that when it's hot though.
