gauges and pods

Sorry if its been answered elsewher but I tried the search function to no luck.

I got my banks pyro that seems to be working fine, I want to add a boost gauge does anyone know a good one? this one looks cheap and might fit the bill?

Also trying to figure out why my tach gauge wont work it sometimes bounces around but usually sits at 0. checked the connections at the IP and they are clean now.. seems to be in dash cluster?

anyone know a good/cheap oil presure gauge too? I think I'll mount the pyro up with boost on a pillar pod 2 or 3'er and maybe put the oil where pyro was by the shifter. Any other tips and gauge ideas welcome too i jsut cant afford the 200$ gauges. Thanks!

Not sure on the gauges, besides your local parts store, but for the tach I would have to say the sensor on the gear housing is most lickly at fault, mine did the same thing when it went bad.

I spent $68 on my 3, 2 1/16" gauges at Canadian Tire a couple weeks ago. TH eones I had before that cost me $30, but they were a little too low in price...gauges are not where you want to go super cheap. Expect to spend about $100 - $150 on a good boost and O/P gauge.

Hindsight being 20/20...I would go with an electric O/P gauge...one that does not require oil being pumped to a gauge in the cab to read pressure....as me why I say this....

Sounds like you need a new Tach sender. It's a Ford only item.

With a lot of things, you get what you pay for with gauges. I'd recommend Autometer, VDO, or Isspro.

I think it is a crapshoot. I have had 4 or 5 vehicles with only the mechanical and never a leak.

I have 1 with the electric sending unit, and maybe just a coincidence, but after messing around with a different brand of oil and additives the sending unit started acting funny and took a dump.

Changed oil, the sending unit wasn't as flaky, but still had weird issues. I also think the reason I went electric was because at the time when I got the small.mini gauges they didn't have a mechanical one.

I got a NASTY oil stain on the floor of my truck. The line was routed to not kink, but it managed to kink. I flashed up the truck in the driveway, got out to check my tires and just as I got my legs out of the way it started leaking fairly good. About a cup of oil came out before I shut her off....it's damn near impossible to get out of the carpet!

I would like to point out that this was with the plastic line, and my new gauge came with copper line...which I have yet to install.

I too am leary about plumbing oil, coolant, fuel into the cab. My only mechanical gauges (out of 7 extra I have) are air pressure for the on-board air and boost.

Thanks for all the information guys, I've heard of ISSPro and VDO in all my looking around. 100-150$ for both wouldn't be bad, its hard to trust the stock 'gauges' and I'd have more peace of mind knowing what boost, if the oils good 'n pressurized, etc.

Tach sensor eh? I've read about those, and lose lines and a resistor that fks all the gauges up. I'll try the sender first because the other 'gauges' are fine except voltage sticks . Gotta find a ford shop and get one, maybe today

Might grab a coolant temp sensor or two so i know how hot going in and out and a gauge for tranny but i hear the t18/19 is built like a poop brick house. Any other useful gauges out there other than whats been mentioned? Electrical does sound alot cleaner heh, if you cover all the carpet in oil it might match Goofy

Fuel pressure and vaccum gauges are pretty popular

Im running Isspro fuel pressure, boost, and Pyro gauges in my 02 2500 Dodge Diesel. Very quality product. the Pyro and Fuel pressure gauges are expensive, I think for all three gauges and the pod mount on my A pillar was like 350 shipped to my door.

I just changed mine from nylon to copper and you would not believe the sound that copper tube carries inside the truck. Now I can hear clicking and ticking and the turbo spooling on acceleration. My truck was very quiet inside before I switched. I'am going to try sticking some sound deadening mat to the line before it goes inside the cab.

Boost
Pyrometer
Oil pressure
Coolant temp

Less commonly used, but good to have:
Voltmeter
Fuel Pressure (I think this is a really important gauge, but its not common).
Vaccum (Good to have with vaccum assisted brakes, but I don't have one).
Tranny temp (with automatics, you have a T19 so not needed)
Oil Temp

Really? I never thought of it....but I suppose a metal line would transfer sounds and vibrations more than a plastic one. I got a BIG ass grommet for mine. But after hearing this I may wrap the line in heat shrink and some wire loom to eliminate any sound.

Ill take another look around tomorrow, I went to Ford and got the tach sensor thing, 75$

anyone got a used one they would spare, I can take this one back as long as it ain't open. Or is there a way to check without me wasting 75$.

My cluster has some lights that flicker in it too , is it easy to swap them cause I almost have the cluster out just gotta unplug the cables
