Fuel Selector Switch

Here is a question I'm almost embarrassed to ask. In the picture below, which tank am I drawing fuel from?

I always thought I would be drawing fuel from the front tank when the switch was in this position. It seemed perfectly logical to me.

However, events this past weekend make me question this basic assumption. A while back I filled both tanks. I drove 200 miles with the switch as shown, and then changed to the other tank. In about 10 miles I started loosing power and the "Fuel Filter" light started blinking, and then stayed on. When I stopped the engine died. I changed back to the tank I had driven on for 200 miles, the selection switch again as shown in the picture. I headed for the closest filling station.

The front tank, which I thought I had been using for 200 miles, needed only 2 gallons. I don't care what some people claim, these trucks will not get 100MPG.

The rear tank, which I thought should be full, drank down 15 gallons. I had apparently been drawing fuel from the rear tank, with the selector switch as shown in the picture.

Thus the question. Am I confused, and have been since I bought the truck, is the wiring screwed up in some way, or is the wiring reversed, showing the wrong tank as being selected?

I need a definitive answer to this so I know which tank is causing the "Fuel Filter" light to come on.

That should be in the front position. Has the valve been replaced? Maybe the fuel line output connections got put on back wrong, ie front are on rear connections and rear are on front connections.

Or someone reversed the power wires at the valve, or switch.


Or it could be the valve is stuck only pulling from rear despite the switch's position?

Also could be FSV is not letting return fuel to the front tank (ie: pugged return, partially stuck FSV, etc.).

It's happened to me.

Edit: I should read more carefully ... I see that's already been suggested.

If his truck got 100MPG and I bought it, I would drive it EXACTLY the same way that he does.
