Why not a Ford 6.6 or a DT360 Cornbinder?
There's more to life than a 6BT. Not that I dont like em.

if I had me a nice 4x4 in the 67-79 I would go big. I have thought about it a lot lately and really like the dt466. I drive one in a 31000lb truck and it runs out great. The truck is low geared and at 55-65mph it turns 25-2800rpm. This truck gets 7-8mpg. I figure that if you build a light truck with the right gears it should get 25mpg. I have never wanted a 4x4 but it would take one for clearance issues with the big drive train.

Why fight a 466 if you want an IH DT series motor? The 360 would about drop in by comparison. The few pics I've seen the 466 would be a real shoe horn fit. From what MNR said about his 6BT swap, that would be as easy as an IDI. I think the 460 mounts have to go or be modified. The NP435 would bolt up but only if you modify the bellhousing or switch to a diesel bell, that is to the IDI. I'm led to believe behind the Cummins you'd want your ZF-5 or a Dodge O/D manual.

There's been quite a few 466 swaps started in the past 5 years, and I was one of em. I have only seen a couple get completed. Which is why I suggest a DT360 for a pickup. An F450 may be a candidate for a 466.

Is it just too big and long? I agree I won't suggest a 466 swap till I see someone finish one and have it work out really nicely for them. Hesutton is doing one and I'm waiting eagerly to see what he and his dad do to get over the hurdles that it will inevitably present.

for my particular swap a DT466 is most deff. out of the question. the DT360 w/ a medium duty trans like heath suggested is intriguing. i keep comming back to the 6.9/7.3L only because i have more access to them then i do the DT or the medium duty stuff.

and not to mention the guys around here seem to think their 5.9 cummins are worth gold even with 300k+ on them
