Cut pyro Wires

I'm planning to install the 088 Kit that I have tomorrow or Monday, pending the weather, and the only issue that I have is the kit that I got from a member here has the wires cut on the sending unit for the pyro. Now I've read that having the wires cut and splicing them back together will have a minimal influence on the accuracy of the gauge, but I am having my doubts. So what is the consensus here on OB about a cut pyro sender? Can I use it and have faith in its accuracy, or should I just buy a whole new gauge and sender and be done with it. I work the truck, so I need it to be reliable and show fairly accurate readings. Its a VDO gauge btw, so if possible I'd like to keep it

You can splice them back together as long as you have most of the wire. The gage is calibrated to the length of the wire (resistance), so a little short won't matter much. Yellow wire is positive, red is the negative. Those two wires are of different metals, and twisted and welded together, they generate millivolt's depending on how hot they get which in turn powers the gage. If you have a noncontact Laser temp gage you can compare temps.

I dont have any type of gauge to measure them or know it they are the correct length, but coming from the gauge is a blue and red wire and coming from the sending unit is a red and and yellow wire, supposedly a factory setup . Not too sure what is going on with that, but I though Id run it going red=red and blue-yellow and see what happens. If it doesn't work I'm not going to mess with the fuel until I order a new unit, but I'm not sure whats going to happen with it yet.

I guess I wasn't clear or you don't understand. The RED and the YELLOWwires from the sender (thermocouple) hooks directly to the guage. DO NOT SPLICE EITHER ONE TO THE BLUE the guage will go POOUFFFF. Tha back of the guage should be marked, take a pic and post it.

I would contact VDO and try to just buy new wires. Shouldn't be that expensive, and you want it accurate. You're looking at very small voltages that are turned into a temperature reading, so any differences you make with your connection could cause problems.
