Connecting rod broke below the piston. Looking for ideas on cause.

No problem, unfortunately it’s difficult to predict. Your best bet to prevent this from happening is to have a good mechanical temp gauge in the cab and to use the ford sca additive

Gotcha. I at least feel better that I know what happened now. I was running the sca additive but using the factory temp gauge. And I dont know the history of the engine so the last owner may not have run it. The temp gauge seemed to work alright but I wouldn't put it past it to not show fluctuations. Thanks for all the replies!
