Chirping sound

Im about tired of tracking down little sounds on my truck. Well todays newest one is from the engine compartment I am guessing its from one of the pulleys, but which one. I can turn the ac off and on and still get the sound. It sounds like a little chirp. Anyway to be able to tell what pulley its coming from?

likely its the belt tensioner or belt itself.
had the same problem.both needed replacement and annoying chirp went away.

Probably an old belt. A hard/shiny spot will slip on a pulley , sounding like a chirp. A new belt will not slip or make sounds.

A head gasket leaking compression to the outside can make a chirping sound as well.

Come on dont tell me that. there new head gaskets though. How can I rule this out? I think I may try to replace the belt, even though its a new belt. I may also do the idler pulley to.

If it were a head gasket bad enough to be making the noise, it would show up drastically on a compression test

Easy way to test the belt or pulleys is to take off the belt (I'm guessing it is a serpentine) and start the engine. No chirp, it is the belt or one of the pulleys. Since you say it is a new belt, then it will be a pulley and the idler is the usual suspect.

I had a vacuum pump make a chirping sound when it was taking a **** on a truck of mine a couple years back.

or instead of going through all of the work to pull it off if you may not have to. Just spray some WD40 on while its running, noise will go away.
