Check eng light ??

So I changed the fuel filter last week and every since then the ck eng light comes on every time I start it. Start driving shift from first to second very hard and within a block ck eng light goes out checked for computer for codes nothing. Any ideas

Get a real code reader. Not a generic reader, it has to be a diesel specific one. The diesel computers don't talk to generic readers. And, if the CEL comes on, the computer will store the code. Doesn't matter if the fault goes away, the code will be stored until it is cleared by a scanner / computer program like AE.

If it studders for a little then the CEL goes out it could very well your UVCH is partially becoming unplugged on the underside of the valve cover. Had the same symtoms on my 99. It could also be the harness rubbing and bare wires on the underside of it aas it lays on the valve cover, a common problem.
