Stupid program. Went to the local pick and pull. 4 IDI's, 1 OBS PSD. 1 IDI and the PSD where both cash for clunkers. Poor motors. Pull the dipstick out and it had a bunch of the sand (sodium silicate I believe) was in there. PSD had a turbo on it, tried to move the wheel, wouldnt even turn. Sucks cause they were going to give it to me for around $40

Robbed a vacuum pump, tach sensor, and dash knob for $20. Brakes are now fixed .

Also my truck rolled over 140,000 miles yesterday

Vacuum pump, yes. Starter, dont know. Its set down on the frame so it would be super hard to get to.

American society has become a disposal-able society. It's simply more convenient to throw away something old, even if it is reliable, and replace it with some new blingy toy with half the life expectancy. In addition to a disposal-able society, we have turned into an society with a sense of entitlement.

Joe down the street has a mansion and a yacht, I want a mansion and a yacht. Never mind Joe has been working 16 hours a day, 6 days a week for 5 years to afford said mansion and yacht.

The dill holes driving this country continue to reinforce this attitude with **** poor decision making and running up the national credit card. Why work hard when the government will give you a mansion and a yacht for doing nothing.

Cash for clunkers was the media name, I always called it Cash for cars that run really well but were purchased by people who weren't bright enough to get a car that gets reasonable fuel economy I walked through the local pick-n-pull and found a PRISTINE BMW 740il and Audi allroad, at least 1 IDI, several Subaru SVXs, not to mention it totally killed the availability of cheap parts cars on the market...

Someone traded a 05 or 06 GTO.Forgot the year but it was the first gen with the small motor.Still it was a freaking GOAT!If you look on youtube you will see a bunch of stupid ****.Masarati,Vets,there was a cherry Dodge Dakota convertable,nice luxury cars,perfect for F series.One was kinda comical in a sick way.460 powered ford Fseries.Ran for over 5 minutes with no oil,no coolant,that sand crap running through its veins before it locked.Wouldn't die.Then the Chevy van that lasted about 10 seconds.Waaaaaa...boom.....and it throws a rod completely clear of the engine.

That is what we get for giving this nation to the socialist to run.I warned everybody in 08...but nooo.No one would listen.....Now look comrads!

Listen comrade, I too have been watching this train wreck for years. And it saddens me to know that the average, day to day american, thinks that this is a healthy normal way to live. Too many trees. Where again is this forest you speak of?

Sorry for the hijack but while we're pondering disposable cars here's a study I'd like to see done.

On the issue of environmental conservation. Lets say you took the average length of time that your typical new car buyer keeps their car. On the basis of this frequency of replacement you totaled in the energy and waste created in the production and disposal of said vehicle and established a so called "environmental footprint" (someone else's catchphrase that seems to fit this idea well). You would need to take into account the waste generated by the facilities that produce the chemicals used in paint or plastics and the mining of iron ores and production of steel. Also the fuel used in transporting raw materials etc.

Now take this "environmental footprint" and compare it to the guy who buys his car new but properly maintains it and keeps it for 15 years or more. Using the same criteria for energy and waste created as well as a penalty for older less efficient emissions systems compare the total environmental impact of the two different ownership experiences.

I don't have the answer but I am pretty sure the well maintained older car would come out way ahead in terms of creating less environmental waste over a long period of time. It might even be such that the frequent purchasing of smaller more fuel efficient vehicles is actually more wasteful than the long term ownership of a significantly less fuel efficient vehicle.

This is something that I believe is beyond the comprehension of the entire "greenie" movement. Another train wreck that I've been watching for years.

Remember, Cars don't pollute, people do.

It may be a little off topic but I Tell everyone that I drive a "green two door that doesnt use a drop of gas" Then I show them the video on my phone with my old glow plugs on a freezing day. You cannot see across the driveway through all the smoke

Around here its hard to find any older trucks that are in good shape because of the salt they use on the roads. Stuff eats everything before the engine and drive train are shot.

To see some of these older trucks that are in way better shape than mine being destroyed just kills me. Trucks that clearly ran good and have no major problems and the bodies are straight and rust free.

I seen some of the videos on youtube and it made me sick. Quite a few of witch were filmed at foreign car dealerships.

The fact that you could trade vehicles in at foreign car dealerships for this program just shows how stupid it was. Hows that even going to help our economy? Yeah some of those vehicles are manufactured here but most of the money still goes over seas.

If any of my friends or family had participated in that stupid program I would have disowned them and probably hurt them!

Yeah thats mean but thats just the way I feel.
