5k limit!

So Blackie pretty much sits, or does little trips. Then there's times where it gets put through its paces. Had a minivan on the car carrier, dropped it off, and as I was unplugging the electrical harness of the trailer, I almost slice my wrist off with a metal tag. It's a weight rating for the heavy duty bumper hitch.

Which is different than a frame mounted hitch.

Which means I've been overloading the 5k limit??

This bumper is attached to the frame, so will it have to be removed for me to install the proper hitch?

Bumper hitches are never as strong as a frame mounted one. Only way you can get them close is to have a welded, super heavy duty bumper that basically makes it a part of the frame.

depends on the bumper. the drop bumper on my dually is a v5 rated bumper. but I use the regular hitch under it

OP you dont have to remove your bumper to install a frame mounted one. Although its a littel easier. but not a tough job even with it in place.

Depends on if its the 5k tongue weight or the 5k trailer weight your overloading. Safe bet here is your overloading the entire trailer weight rating of that bumper hitch. I've twisted plenty with trailers under 5 or 6k gross. Get a good frame hitch and itll be much more reliable and sturdier.

I can pull 10 K with my bumper hitch...WTF U talkin bout?

Yeap! a tag is a tag all the way riot. I just dont have one on my truck now because they dont drop down to accept some of the lower tongue trailers i haul...and sometimes i need to use my pintle receiver also.

Found this just a couple days ago. Pretty good read even though i found myself looking at the pictures saying, "done that", "yep did that too", "Seen that before", "Yep did that once". I try to avoid most of the situations illustrated though.

It is a drop bumper with 2" reciever built to haul with don't know brand but ya...says good to 10K so I'm golden not that I would do it...but technically I can!

My Luverne drop bumper says it's rated for 10,000 lbs trailer weight and 1k lbs tongue weight. Of course I have a receiver below it and a drop hitch to get low enough for trailers. Really need to get a drop hitch rated for more than 5k lbs though.
