1988 ford f250 7.3 idi 5 speed swapped

Today i just finished putting a zf5 in my 1988 ford f250. The truck originally had a c6 in it. Before i did the swap all of my turning signal lights worked. and dash lights were working before too. After the swap i cant crank the truck over with the key. To crank the truck over i had to use a screw driver over the solenoid because it will not turn over at the key. i am not sure if it is the wiring harness that goes to the transmission or what is going on. I took the steering column out too so could that have something to do with it ? It would be really appreciated if someone could help me out because i am at a dead end at where to start looking.

What did you do with the wires that used to go to the transmission? There would have been a connector on the passenger side of the C6 transmission [EDIT: WRONG... should be to the DRIVER'S side of the C6]. That is your neutral safety switch, and normally it prevents you from cranking the engine while the transmission is not in park or neutral. Manual transmissions typically have this connected to the clutch pedal instead.

You took the steering column out, but did you put the same one back in? Did you unplug anything in the process?

I would have a closer look at the ignition switch. The switch is located at the lower end of the steering column under the dash and connects to the key with an actuator rod that goes down the spine of the column. It's best accessed by dropping the column.

Sorry, brain fart. The connector for the transmission goes to the Driver's side. Should have been to a switch on the shift lever of the transmission itself.
