    Not Good

Ok i'll hold off on the oil test, I did have a magnetic drain plug put in when it was changed as well so that should help a bit, what are the bearings on these made out of, are they steel backed then aluminium with a tin/lead babbit coating?

    Not Good

Never thought of that, the mech pump is also original, how do I check the eccentric, it should just look like a cam lobe correct? I do have a borescope I bought at work to look in the engine if need be, its one of the ones with a vid screen so no trying to look in an eyepiece. The good thing...

    Not Good

Engine has never been opened, 221,900 miles on all original parts save for the injectors, I can have my work test the oil, I work at a Cat dealer and we have an oil lab. I will try to get the pics of the filter media up after turkey day. There are no ticking noises at all, just the exhaust...

    Not Good

Well I just changed the oil in the truck, had auto-rx in it and that has done great so far my problem lies with what was in the filter. I cut open my last filter (before auto rx and using a quart every 1100 miles) and it had some small pieces of brass, steel and aluminum in it, this time I had...

    FIRE IN THE HOLE...!

Also whenI changed my injectors it took it about 4 DAYS to self purge the air out of the system, no matter how much I bled the injectors it would still thump and miss a bit at idle, after a couple days and bumping my idle up to 800 to keep the belts from slapping all the air was purged. Took a...

    injector pumps are they progressive

Ditto, I cranked my fuel screw way up and am getting better mileage and more turbo boost a bit sooner but only if I don't hot rod it. You will hate it if you turn down the pump, it will be like there is no turbo at all, remember the turbo is spun by HOT exhaust gases and when you turn down the...

I have an "off the wall question"...

As I have posted before (http://www.oilburners.net/forums/showthread.php?t=25116) my IDI would be a VERY close match for my buds 06 Cummins, I had some advantages though, 1. He has a Mega Cab 2. He has 37's 3. He WAS stock at the time 4. It is a Dodge lol I could just creep past him from...

    Five Year Old NAPA Batteries

We had a motorcraft battery in my moms '92 Taurus wagon 3.8L, we bought the biggest battery that would fit in the compartment, it was a 1100CCA when stock calls for 500-600 that battry lasted for 8 years and the only reason we had to replace it was the alternator fried to full field and...

Truck accelerates like a rocket just before running out of fuel

IIRC the pumps timing is affected by inlet fuel pressure, when you run out pressure drops and timing advances.

    I love my truck

I just started my truck today, it has sat since Sep 28 without being moved or started because I did the brakes and found that the pads (three different sets!) were too thick for my rotors so I just hammered the calipers on (then found out it was WAY too tight and got real hot) and let it sit...

I think i have a problem, ZF related

Just take a jumper from the pos side of the starter relay on the fender to the little post on the front of the relay with the wire on it when it is OUT OF GEAR!!! It will start then bypassing every saftey feature on the truck.

opinions on dana 60 vs. ttb50

I still have the TTB in mine and it has worn down to only around a half inch or so above the bump stops BUT everything has worn so perfectly on this thing that it does not chew tires up or wander down the road, in fact I have never rotated the tires in the 3 1/2 years I have had it due to the...

    My trucks accel run.

Well the most I have towed with it is around 9000lbs or so, it was a Cat 236B skid steer (about 7000lbs) I rented from work with the trailers from work which weigh in at around a ton, it is about 22 miles from work to home and most of it is flat freeway but the last bit of highway (about 1 1/4...

    Engine mods

From what i've heard there are really no cams or heads for these engines, only pistons that lower your compression ratio to help with more boost. There are really no aftermarket parts for these old engines save for the MoosePump and MooseInjectors (PLEASE!!! LOL) and bolt ons thats it pretty...

Fuel mileage...what do you guys think?

The turbo helps ALOT if you have 3.55's and are towing as long as you keep it near the governor for max boost (non-wastegated).

Fuel mileage...what do you guys think?

Yes I have 3.55's, my trailer weighs in at around 1500-1750 and then what ever a Cherokee weighs, and the 24mpg is when I was trying to get the best possible, I did 50-55 mph the whole way and stayed behind big rigs when I could, it's amazing how much more you have to push the peddle down to...

Fuel mileage...what do you guys think?

16 City 21 Hwy in mine IF and a BIG IF I keep my foot out of it. Best I have had is 24 going to Elko Nevada. If I don't keep my foot out of it I get 15-16 no matter what, I even got 15 towing last week, I flew up Mount Rose (4700ft to 8000ft in a hurry) highway to Incline Village, picked up a...

    Turbo Update

On the opposite side of the spectrum is my non-wastegated turboed beast, NO boost at all down low, tons of coal coming out the pipe then at about 2000rpm's the boost starts coming on slow, by the time I hit the governor at 3500rpm's (according to tach) I have 10-12lbs of boost empty and 15-16...

mech. fule pump failed- oil guage reads high

You can also (works with gas anyway, doubt on diesel) take a spoonfull of oil (metal spoon) and use a lighter till it is smoking then try to light the smoke, if it lights there is fuel in oil (like I said works on a gasser) if it doesn't no fuel. Also like previously stated your oil level on...

'Ol Faithful is sick (assesment of my 7.3, with video!!)

It's fun taking that filler cap off with the fan going a gazillion miles an hour 2 inches from your fingers huh?:rotflmao My truck has a "chirping sound" as well but it has been doing it for 3 and a half years now so I don't think anything is wrong with mine but if you've narrowed it down to...

mech. fule pump failed- oil guage reads high

The oil pressure gauge is just an idiot light with a needle, if there is anything more than 7psi it will show somewhere in "NORMAL", if the needle moves at all it is due to more or less resistance in the circuit somewhere so the gauge tells you nothing about the condition of the engine at all...
