How to set the timing on your 6.9 or 7.3 IDI and how to buy timing equipment.

@ISPKI: love the posts! Thanks for the in depth analysis. Yes, I agree that is should be centered. There is so much vacuum suction at the intake, I’m not sure that favoring the rear cylinders would be effective, also, I don’t know if it’s worth isolating the individual piston temps to figure...- 1189-66

Water Methanol?
12v electric turbo fan on the intake of an IDI is my thought. Im wondering if anyone has tried it. The video recommended is on a gas sports car. I’d love to do a real turbo, but parts for a van are rare and expensive.- 1189-66

As I thought about it yesterday, the air filter hat is lower than the wiper nozzles. It is quite likely that once the water injection is activated, the remainder of the fluid would siphon into the intake even if the washer pump was not running. Some type of siphon break would have to be...- 1189-66

E4OD won't move from stop in D
Old thread for this type of problem, but I just installed a shift kit on my 1990 E4OD. The valve body gaskets had gotten so brittle over the years, that they had crumbled in a few spots. Aside from the improved performance of the shift kit, I think that new gaskets also made a difference.- 1189-66

Thanks for all the replies! I’ve done a good bit of research here and elsewhere on the H2O/CH₃OH but have found very little info from anyone actually testing a non-turbo engine. I agree with the need for a turbo, however those of us with limited resources tend to look down all the rabbit holes...- 1189-66

I am considering installing a simple system using the windshield washer and pump, routing the hose to the intake with a fine mist sprayer, and just pushing the button when I need extra power passing or hauling. There is a screen over the intake already to protect sucking the nozzle in and power...- 1189-66
