HCE--You're right, it locks out the overdrive, not the 4x4. I misspoke, but I meant what you said....
Ok guys, I got a chance to work on the GV in the truck tonight. I removed the instrument bezel and was able to remove the dash switch and do some testing.
So behind the Autodrive light there's...
Yeah, the Mustang project (it's a GT 5.0L) started out with a simple clutch replacement and while the 5 speed was out I decided to rebuilt it. But it snowballed into having to cut off the front two catalytic converters because I couldn't get two of the exhaust manifold bolts off and the other...
Thanks for the detailed info guys!!! You guys are awesome.
Olds64--Thanks for those steps on the multimeter. That's exactly what I needed to know.
Franklin2--thank you for bringing that to my attention. Not knowing that, I would have tested the switch just like I tested it for voltage (I...
Idibronco-- The ground was the first thing I checked. It's only got 1.4 ohms and the wire is on bare metal. The ground seems to be good.
A couple guys mentioned to check continuity. I know this may be a dumb question to most, but I'm not too knowledgeable about electrical stuff. How do you...
BlindAmbition--Thanks for posting that diagram. So it looks like mine is wired the same way, with one exception. I don't have a 4x4 lockout wire plugged into anything because my truck is a 78 and the tranny &/or transfer case doesn't have any electronics on it to plug the 4x4 lockout wire into...
K-NITE--I have not tested the speed sensor, but I did unplug and plug back in all the wires going to the control box and that didn't fix the problem. The problem seems to be that the red light on the dash switch won't come on for some reason. When it does come on, the GV will shift. I can sit in...
Ok guys, I have an update. So I flipped the on/off power switch on the dash switch and nothing on the control box changed. There's still just one light lit up on the control box, which I believe is just the light indicating there's power to the box because when I unplugged the fuse, that light...
Cubey--Good thought, might have to try that after I do the testing the guys in this thread have suggested. But since I don't get home from work until after dark, it might not get done until this weekend.
Cubey--the problem with that is unless they're open on the weekends, they're closed when I get off work and have a chance to call. That's why I emailed them.
Captain720--thanks for the info. So what ohm/resistance reading am I looking for? The lower the number the better?
HCI--4x4 lockout is connected. Everything is hooked up and connected per the instructions and everything has been working properly for the past 6 years. I haven't done anything to...
I have no idea. I can check this tomorrow. So to check resistance, I put my multimeter on the ohms setting?? I'm not very good with electrical so I will need advice on this.
Here's some more info that might be valuable in diagnosing the problem.....So looking at my wiring diagram for the GV, the power source is coming from the fuse box and it also has an inline fuse. When I was inspecting the ground wire, I did notice the light was coming on on the main control box...
No, because I wasn't sure what to do next. I will do what you suggested and post the results. Hopefully I'll be able to do that tomorrow (Sunday) if the weather doesn't prevent my efforts. Thanks for your help.
I need some help with troubleshooting a problem I’m having with my GV Overdrive. I’m not sure why Gear Vendors has an email because every time I’ve tried to contact GV over the years, I have NEVER received a response. So after doing an online search for “Gear Vendors Troubleshooting”, this forum...
