For a goose plate I welded 2 plates [5/16"?] together with four interlocked welded tabs for the rail pins. Using the plate keeps the ball low and under the 5th wheel hitch like others above.
As for gearing, in my 87 it has 4.56 r&p and towed anything I ever put behind it, just as good as my 05...
No factory reading of EGT's on these trucks.
You can pick up a gauge and probe kit and install one yourself. To install you would drill and tap (1/8" NPT) the drivers side manifold near the #8 port. To access lay on your back under the truck and look straight up and you'll see there's plenty of...
Pulling grade I don't go any higher than 1150*. When you tow you'll notice you can control the EGT's with your right foot on the skinny pedal. Also pulling long grades try keep rpms 2400 or higher to keep the EGT's from rising to quickly.
We did a trip out to Knoebels a week or so ago. Left Jersey, went out through Bloomsburg south 487 to J&D CampGround. A couple of good grades that knocked your speed down but nothing to worry about.
The truck liked 2500+ pulling grade. Rpm depicted speed, so if it got down below 2300rpm, I'd...
Be sure to get all the parts including the old copper washer.
If you can't get the nozzle cap out, grind the threads off of the injector body. Then screw the injector back together and you should be able to get the whole thing out.
I worked the crew cab pretty hard this past week. Took the fam out to Knoebels for a couple of days. We ended up right down the road at J&D's campground which was only 1.5 miles from the park. On the way out from Jersey we went through Bloomsburg and headed south. Going home we went south on 61...
X2. $600 with the adapter for a P-type unit is good even if the unit needs a clutch and new o-rings. I paid 8 for mine and I rebuilt it and loved it ever since. It's the reason I kept a simple/durable C-6, best of both worlds having o/d with a kick of a switch.
For you to be at those rpms in overdrive with those tires, you must have 4.56 R&P? If no overdrive then you would have 3.31 R&P? Are you sure your speedometer is correct?
