Electrical System goes Dead at Start

Agreed. Sounds very much like a battery connection issue. I haven't had to mess with the starter on mine but if the starter has its own ground wire, check that connection first since you've had the starter out and replaced. Also, least maintained connection is usually batteries to frame. Worth...

Reman IP fuel setting for existing turbo?

FINISHED and on the road. Figured I’d replace the throttle position sensor while I was at it and took some pictures of the position of the old one before removal and installed the new one, matching as closely as I could. That worked out - - took a 45 minute test drive and the truck shifted...

Getting early Banks Sidewinder big air box out and back in - this method works

I just finished putting my early Banks turbo with the huge air box back on a 93 F-350 7.3 IDI. Anyone who has ever pulled this air box out or put one back in knows what a PITA it is, but I have found a way to do it that minimizes the frustration for those of us who have not yet replaced the box...

Reman IP fuel setting for existing turbo?

The rep told me their reman pumps are completely disassembled and cleaned and for DB2 Stanadyne pumps, they replace the overflow valve, metering valve, lift pump blades, lift pump line, advance piston and all gaskets and seals with new components. All other parts that fall outside of the...

Reman IP fuel setting for existing turbo?

Success! Several of the connections started to squirt during the first few seconds of cranking. I got six of them closed off in six short crank sessions and then the motor started on the seventh. I’m REALLY grateful for all the helpful advice. Still need to get the turbo air filter rig all back...

Reman IP fuel setting for existing turbo?

Just came to me! I have the forward-most wire on the driver's side of the pump pulled off so the truck won't start. Is that connection needed for the pump to work? (My excuse for ignorance is I was USCG trained on GM 6V-53 series engines and this IP stuff is new to me.)

Reman IP fuel setting for existing turbo?

UPDATE. Just finished before it got too dark to see what's happening. All injector connections cracked as advised, fully charged batteries, block heated engine, schrader valve purged of air and then closed up while still cranking, 2-minute wait, then 15-seconds of cranking, 2-minute wait...

Reman IP fuel setting for existing turbo?

Super helpful! It's an E4OD, so I won't be dragging it around the neighborhood. But I keep the batteries on a charger and I ran the block heater before I tried cranking and will do so again. Going to try again today.

Reman IP fuel setting for existing turbo?

Replacement injector pump is in, everything is connected and I'm working on purging the air out of the injector lines. I've got two lines cracked open and after four 15-second cycles, no fuel coming out. I bled the schrader valve next and removed the bleed hose while still cranking. Tried...

    Mystery Wire??

Again, the advice (and the diagram) really helped! It turns out that the mystery wire goes to the old oil pressure idiot gauge. I didn’t install the calibrated aftermarket gauge now sitting on the dash, so it was not an obvious conclusion for me without the feedback. Thanks again and Happy New Year!

    Mystery Wire??

All of this is feedback is super helpful and I will report back. Will check it out today. Thanks!

    Mystery Wire??

While I was crawling around on the motor removing injector connections (’93 F350 7.3, early Banks Sidewinder), my clothing pulled off a wire and I don’t know where it goes. The clue is that it is the red/white striped wire coming from the direction of the firewall (yellow arrow) in the loom...

Such a simple answer. Priceless! Thank you very much IDIBronco! Installation of the reman IP continues...

Reman IP fuel setting for existing turbo?

Thanks, the pin came out no problem. I put the round connecting tab on and pushed the pin back into the hole where it goes until it stopped, but the hex set screw directly in line with the pin pushed it back out partially when I tightened that screw. With the two set screws tight and the pin...

Reman IP fuel setting for existing turbo?

Thank you for that. I took a picture of the sensor tie-down screws position on the old pump. Is close going to be close enough or does it need to be an exact adjustment like on newer vehicles?

Reman IP fuel setting for existing turbo?

Putting everything back together now. In the “kick myself” department, I sent the old pump back as core but forgot to remove the tab that inserts into the throttle position sensor. As a result, I didn’t have the experience of taking it (whatever it’s called) off the pump. Got a replacement now...

Reman IP fuel setting for existing turbo?

I spoke with one of the guys who builds pumps for The Diesel Store and he was very helpful. He advised against trying to duplicate the "runs good" setting from the old pump to the new one using the number of turns relative to either full closed or full open. He said there is a leaf spring...

Reman IP fuel setting for existing turbo?

Thank you Chillman88 and Josh Bear. I sense a difference of opinion here. :-) I should mention that the old IP is nearly out, so the truck is not going anywhere until I put the new one in. And yes, I have a pyrometer mounted on the dash -- never leave home without one.

Reman IP fuel setting for existing turbo?

Good morning, group. ’93 F-350 has been running an early Banks Sidewinder aftermarket turbo for (apparently) many years before I bought it. IP is leaking now. I’ve bought a reman DB2 5013 to replace same, which was running fine with the turbo, although I understand it is not the recommended...
