Thank you for the information Big Bart! Will start at the top and work down your list. The man that used to rebuild all my alternators has long been passed on. He was a true blessing while here on this earth. But finding this site with so many willing to share their knowledge is also a god...
Big Bart
I have just now got back to it and no, I haven't figured it out yet. Still have the battery light on but have one more thing I noticed. At speeds above 60 mph it goes off? As soon as I let off the throttle it comes back on....I checked the plug on the top back of the alternator already...
Have been having an issue with the battery light flickering and not sure what to fix...had alternator and battery checked, both tested good. Any ideas of where to go next? Thanks
The_Josh_Bear, could you post the exact procedure for this 3 G upgrade along with any benefits that a person will get by doing it. And if course roughly the cost ...thanks
OldIDI, the glow plug harness is working well. Well made, to me it seemed a little short in length but it did connect and have had no issues with the connections.
Thank you for your replies, the person who I had used locally for alternator rebuilds has retired. So I have no trusted source any longer. I will remove the two components mentioned above and have them checked at a parts store to see what might be failing...thanks again!
Hey everyone, having the battery light come on below 2000 rpm. When above 2000 it goes out. I checked the plug on top of the alternator, a previous source due to a disconnected wire in the plug but the plug looks to be ok this time. Please advise
Just ordered a glow plug harness from Classic diesel design. It's the blue braided replacement for my badly worn OEM one. Question is concerning the install of the new harness....should it be enclosed into the OEM loom because of the engine heat or should I just zip tie it to the loom that...
We'll guys, it was a total success! Ended up cutting about 8" out of the original hard pipe and plumbed in a primer bulb. Took a.little time to get all the air out but she's running absolutely beautiful AND not a leak anywhere. Will be interesting to see if eliminating the check valve on the...
Thank you for the replies, would you guys replace the metal hard line from the lift pump to the filter head with a rubber hose? Seems like it would make it easier to put the primer bulb in it, or would you just cut the metal line and connect it that way? Heading to town to get the remote switch...
In the middle of replacing return line orings, olives (4) and fuel filter. Want to put a primer bulb in between the lift pump and filter head. I have a metal hard line now connecting the two. Will it be ok to just cut a section of hard line out for the insertion of the primer bulb? Since I will...
Hi, I have a 1988 7.3 idi and want to order a few things from your website but need to make sure everything will work on my year motor... What to order the premium return line kit but I'm reading it's for the 94'-97's? Will this kit also fit my 1988? Next I see a 3g alternator...what is the...
Thanks for responding Rock, it only has issues getting started. When running, it runs perfectly! Can't remember exactly but it's only been in the last year or so that Ive had this issue. I used to be able to throttle it after initial startup and keep it running but now it starts up, surges and...
Typ4, in re reading your post I saw at the bottom you referenced a Detroit primary? I googled that and it showed a filter head...did you replaced the OEM filter head and replace it with one from this company?
So an update to my selected method to try and get my truck running reliably again. Finally got to the point of ordering the fuel pump from Pegasus Racing. So I called them and talked with their technical department explaining what my issue was concerning my truck. To my surprise, they strongly...
typ4, your saying the pump is mounted down by the selector valve on the frame rail? The toggle switch is inside the cab to prime the system before you start it, correct?
Understand that this topic isn't new but what I'm reading as I go through the entire 1600 some odd pages is that there are a lot of issues with electric pumps delivering proper amounts of fuel in various conditions. My manual pump is the original from 1988 and it seems to be working just fine...
Can someone direct me to the thread that shows a step by step procedure to put in an electric fuel pump powered by a switch that would prime the fuel system for starting and then would be turned off after starting. Want to leave the mechanical pump in place but have issues with air in the filter...
