    [THERMOSTAT RECOMMENDATION] 1994 7.3L IDI N/A

Hey there folks, I am looking to change out my thermostat and have seen a fair amount of debate on the recommended thermostat to install. The reason I am wanting to change it out is because I think my temperature is reading low. When casually driving around town, my temperature sits right at...

    Dash Lights Flicker... Alternator?

Hey guys, my alternator is putting out about 14.1-14.3, but my dash lights, headlights, stereo, etc flicker at idle. When I give it a bit a throttle it levels out. Occasionally the AMP (battery) light flickers on and off, but only at idle. I replaced both batteries about a year ago (x2 big...

    Muffler Recommendations? Straight-Piped ATM

@Sergey Since I sit right at 12,000 lbs, I am basically driving like I am towing everywhere. I have wondered if I would be quieter without my weight, being that I would need less pedal to get around.

@CADHOWDY Would you go with a 12 in. can or 17 in. can? Thanks!

    Muffler Recommendations? Straight-Piped ATM

@Sergey Thank you for your advice, however, I am non-turbo. My current straight-piped setup is just too loud, especially when climbing up a hill and the windows are down, or driving on the highway next to a cement wall on the passenger side. It really is loud! @IDIBRONCO I would like to get a...

    Muffler Recommendations? Straight-Piped ATM

Hey guys! I am looking to get a muffler for my 7.3 IDI NA. I went straight-piped a while back and liked it at first, but it's straight up obnoxious and gets on my nerves now! I'd like to keep the lower tones and cut out the raspy bite. Let me know if you have any recommendations!

    Knocking Sounds (Steering?)

@IDIBRONCO @TNBrett I have heard this too. About a year ago I had my shop look at tightening that screw and he told me the same thing. He tightened it little by little and after a full turn on the screw got no noticeable improvement.

    Knocking Sounds (Steering?)

@IDIBRONCO Do these wear out and need replacing in the lifetime of the vehicle? It's got 158,000 miles right now. Thanks!

    Knocking Sounds (Steering?)

Hey guys, Been a minute since I posted on here. I've got a knocking in the steering that you can feel and hear when driving over any bump in the road. I thought it was the wheel bearings at first because I can get it to knock when rocking the front end side by side (first video), but both wheel...

Heat is turning cold... then hot... then cold... etc.

I'm from Michigan where $650 could actually rent you something decent or get a mortgage at that. The diesel is also $2.20/gal there. If diesel is $4.75/gal in Cali, $650 is probably a literal shoe box haha.

Heat is turning cold... then hot... then cold... etc.

Haha I get it! ... actually, I don't. :p Well I just spent something like $650 driving out to Cali, up the coast and back. $4.75/gal in Cali caught me off guard for sure. Gahhh... that's basically a mortgage, right?

Heat is turning cold... then hot... then cold... etc.

Haha don't get me wrong, if I want to drive it hard I can easily fill up every 275 miles :D I tend to take it easy on the accelerator because that gas pedal is my biggest bill right now haha! I'd rather drive a bit slower and have more in the budget for my own fuel/food!

Slow start at 47 °F ... Glow plugs?

Will do. It idles smooth as soon as it turns over after sitting for 24 hours. It's just getting it to fire quickly that's the issue right now. It has also never not turned over. It was -2 °F in the morning a couple weeks ago and it fired up without running the block heater. Cranked slower but...

Slow start at 47 °F ... Glow plugs?

Okay. So if I get white smoke right away as I start cranking does this rule air intrusion out? Seems to be primed fine.

Got it. When I lived in Michigan, I never got any black smoke even at full throttle, out here at 5280 ft elevation there is considerably less oxygen in the air and I get black smoke super easy. I may not even have to adjust to add extra fuel? Example below...

I'm still learning here... what is "boost"? Is this adding oxygen from tanks?

Slow start at 47 °F ... Glow plugs?

I tested this today. Started up and immediately shut it back off. Started the second time with maybe a 2-3 delay. Thoughts? Would a leak in the power steering pressure line have anything to do with any of this?

Slow start at 47 °F ... Glow plugs?

Oh you are saying just as a temporary test to diagnose if it is or not?

Heat is turning cold... then hot... then cold... etc.

It's not too bad. I can get between 350-400 miles per tank depending on how much I'm in the mountains. If I'm in the mountains driving that goes down considerably. 14 and 10 is driving in and around the Denver area.

Slow start at 47 °F ... Glow plugs?

Yes, this is the case. So, maybe my plugs are just old and need replaced? Why jump right to mechanically toggling the plugs? Is there a benefit here vs. just replacing plugs? Will try this tomorrow and let you know what I get. Thanks!

Think I can even fit a turbo being a van with not much extra room in the bay? I've also heard that adding a turbo on an already high compression engine will make it far less reliable? Is this true? Since this is my full time home, I can't be blowing head gaskets haha. It's got good get up and go...

Heat is turning cold... then hot... then cold... etc.

I've had this happen before! Haha! No trailer hitch on mine. I will check these and let you know their condition. This is interesting as I have On/Off and Resume/Set Accel/Coast buttons on my steering wheel and they are all fully functional for the cruise control. There is no airbag in the...

Slow start at 47 °F ... Glow plugs?

@MtnHaul Haha yes warm is very relative! I prefer 70s! Let me mention... this is a very new thing that it is doing. I went on a road trip from CO to NM to CA and back to CO (total 2,600 miles) last week and it was since then that I am starting slow. Yes, when it cranks, I get white fuelly smoke...
