    Is this Zf5 trans compatible?

    I have a 89 f250 7.3idi with the 4x4 zf5 transmission. I have a buddy with an 89 f250 v8 parts truck that has a recently rebuilt flywheel, transfer case and zf5 trans. Anyone know off hand if the gas flywheel, transmission and transfer case bolt straight in to my diesel?

    Acting like it's out of fuel

    @IDIBRONCO hey, thanks for the advice! I really don't have time to wait around for a delivery from Ebay, this truck is my only vehicle ... I think I'm just going to get an aftermarket pump from the parts store today.

    Acting like it's out of fuel

    So, it's better to get a used pump in questionable condition from Ebay than to buy a new aftermarket pump from a parts store? Also, do you all know of a decent write up (or video) online for replacing the lift pump? I have the Haynes manual for my truck but it doesn't cover the idi. It's very...

    Acting like it's out of fuel

    Will any 6.9 or 7.3 idi lift pump fit my 1989 na?

    Acting like it's out of fuel

    I drove my truck up to 8000' on Mount Lassen in northern California yesterday. When I reached a parking lot near the summit and stopped to look at my map, the truck hesitated a couple of times at idle, exactly the way it does just before it runs out of fuel. My gas gauge don't work and I know I...

    Ball joint replacement blues

    @franklin2 Very interesting. Glad to get that tid bit. I didn't put any extra grease on my passenger side. Kept everything really clean and didn't drop my bearings in the dirt this time. I'll mark on my calendar to pop off the lock out hub area and check for excessive grease in a few weeks. It...

    Ball joint replacement blues

    Got the drivers side ball joints finished. That was considerably more work than I expected. Now that I've done one side, and have all the tools and grease handy, the passenger side should be a piece of cake tomorrow. Thanks guys!

    Ball joint replacement blues

    Aw shoot! :idiot: So, what would happen if I watched a YouTube video that told me to put a big glob in the cavity, and then I did it? Burst a seal or worse?

    Ball joint replacement blues

    On with the next thing. So... I ended up having one of my wheel bearings fall out of the hub while I was putting the darn thing back on the spindle. Of course the bearings fell in the dirt. Now... I think to myself... maybe that's a sign to clean this old hub, replace the seals and repack the...

    Ball joint replacement blues

    Ok, I finally found the correct socket at O'Reilly's. Here's a picture of the packaging/part # just in case anyone needs to know in the future.

    Ball joint replacement blues

    Is the able nut the nut that's in front? It looks like there's a series of odd shaped washers or nuts behind the nut in the foreground of my picture.

    Ball joint replacement blues

    1989 f250 idi 4x4 I started replacing my ball joints today and I just realized that I need an axle spindle nut socket. Can anyone explain to me which socket I need to get? Autozone said they have 6 point and 12 point spindle nut socket sets that "should work". I can't find any information as to...

    Fuel return line to tank

    :idiot: I just cross threaded the top of one of my injectors while replacing my return caps. I see several different posts that suggest using a tap and die to rethread it. However, there seems to be several different people suggesting several different thread sizes. Anyone what size thread our...

    Fuel return line to tank

    Here's a picture of my return to tank setup. As you can see there's the 5/16 push connection at one end. Leading to 5/16 nylon. The last 10", where it ties into the hard line from the injectors and injection pump is 5/16 fuel hose. Should I replicate this setup or is there a better way to do it?

    Alternator swivel bolt and nut trouble

    I was afraid of that. Guess I'll put that job on the back burner for now. It seems to be my luck that for every one thing I fix, two more come up along the way. At least my batteries are charging again! Hopefully it will be a while before I need to take my newly designed, all in one, fuel filter...

    Alternator swivel bolt and nut trouble

    Hey everybody, I went to replace my alternator yesterday and found that the alternator swivel bolt (the one that passes through the fuel filter bracket and into a nut) was spinning but not loosening. I eventually pulled off the alternator/fuel filter bracket as one and discovered my problem! The...

    Fuel return line to tank

    I noticed the fuel line that runs from the rear of the engine compartment (near the glow plug relay) and back toward the fuel tanks is leaking all over the frame of my 1989 idi. It looks as if there's several different types and sizes of tubing that have been spliced together over the years by...

    Clutch problems?

    @IDIBRONCO clutch chatter... huh, interesting. I'll try engaging the 4x4 next time I put a load in. When driving in forward gears, to get moving, would you disengage 4x4 on the fly once you've built up some momentum? That sounds like a great idea thanks.

    Clutch problems?

    Quick update. I drove it around through all the gears including reverse and everything seemed fine without additional weight in the bed. Should I take this as a warning that my clutch is on the way out?

    Clutch problems?

    Hey everybody, I assume it's time to replace my clutch but I thought I'd ask yall if there's any possibility of my issue being related to something else. I'm moving to a new home and I just used the bed of my truck to haul a fairly decent load through the mountains. This was the first time I've...

    This old truck is giving me a hard time.

    @Mulochico Its 7.3. I plugged that line at the filter head when my old leaky lines left me stranded in another town. It started better while it was plugged but I thought with the new return kit it'd fix that issue. Maybe not. I guess I could go back to plugging it again and see what happens...

    This old truck is giving me a hard time.

    Hey folks, I just replaced all of my glow plugs and installed a fuel return line kit at the same time. I have been experiencing a rough start situation since purchasing the truck. On cold start it turns over, runs a second or two and dies. Then it takes a lot of cranking to get it to turn over...

    return lines left me stranded

    @chillman88 Man, I should have slowed down and listened to you before. When you said different size, I was already under the hood. I took like half a second to look and decide they were "the same size". Sorry to you for that... now, I have to pay the price. At the beginning of this thread, you...

    return lines left me stranded

    @Macrobb Things are starting to click! There were two different types of hose on the return lines before I replaced them. Drivers side was where the worst of my leaks were (leaking from every return cap) and had unlabled cloth sheathed rubber lines similar to what I found in the Napa kit. These...

    return lines left me stranded

    @hacked89 Dang, I live 50 miles from that Napa. It's my nearest auto parts store. Maybe I'll just reuse my old caps if it leaks worse than it did before. I did notice that the little fuel pin holes inside the caps were considerably larger in the new ones... was one of those things that made me...
